The keyboard comes away and clips onto the back when you just want to read, which is the whole reason I chose this over a fixed folio. Eight months in the magnets are as strong as the day it arrived and it has never let go in a bag. Typing angle is a little low for a tall desk, mind.

My partner uses an iPad for lesson planning and had been carrying a Bluetooth keyboard loose in her bag, which meant it was always flat when she needed it. This solves that entirely. It takes its power from the tablet, so there is nothing else to charge, and it wakes the moment the cover opens. The case has held onto the tablet through a fortnight of being shoved into a school bag with folders and a water bottle, and there is not a mark on the corners. The stand angle range is wide enough to cope with a low staffroom table and a high standing desk. If I am picking holes, the grey shows chalk dust, but that is hardly the fault of the case!

Came from a cheap folio that added a centimetre to the tablet in every direction, so the first thing I noticed was how little bulk this adds. The flip is cleverer than it sounds. Keyboard off, tablet flat for drawing, keyboard back on for email, all without unclipping anything from the back panel. Keys have a proper travel to them and the layout is full size, so there is no hunting for the apostrophe. Where it loses a star is the lap. On a desk it is rock solid; balanced on your knees the base flexes and the whole thing wants to fold shut. It is a desk and a table keyboard, not a sofa one, and the pictures rather suggest otherwise.

Two things nobody mentions. First, the keyboard half will sit flat under the tablet when folded back, so it does not rock on a table like the old cover did. Second, the front cover shuts with a magnet firm enough to survive being pulled out of a bag by the edge. Both small, both the difference between using it and not!

Started well and has not aged well. The right-hand hinge flap has gone soft where it folds, so the stand no longer holds the tablet up on its own and it slowly tips backwards while you type. The keyboard itself still works and the keys are as good as they were, which makes it more annoying rather than less. At this money I expected the structure to outlast the electronics, and instead it is the other way round. Fourteen months of ordinary desk use, no drops, nothing dramatic. Two stars for the typing.

Bought this for the commute and it has done every working day on a train table since. The hinge has loosened a touch over that time, so on a moving carriage the tablet nods when the train brakes, but it has never folded shut on me. Keys still feel the same as they did, no shine, no sticking. A year and a bit in the fabric has picked up the usual dark patch where a thumb sits. For what it does I would buy it again, though I would like a slightly stiffer hinge and a slightly cheaper price.

Fit round the ports is exact, no shaving of the edges to get a cable in, and the speaker cutouts are open rather than being covered by a flap of fabric. Weight is the only reservation. It is noticeably heavier in one hand than the tablet alone, which you feel reading in bed.

Four months of taking this to and from site in a rucksack and the corners are unmarked, which says more than any drop test would. The magnets are strong enough that I can pick the whole thing up by the keyboard and the tablet stays put, though I would not make a habit of it. Keys are quiet enough for a meeting.

Set it up for my father, who is not remotely technical, and he has had no trouble with it at all. There is nothing to pair and nothing to charge, so it simply works whenever he opens it. The keys are big enough for him to see, which was half the reason!
