Six virtual machines running and it does not notice
The mini LED panel blooms around white text on black
The reason for 192GB was a lab of virtual machines that used to live on a server in the cupboard, and the cupboard is now empty. Six of them up at once, plus a browser and the usual mess, and the memory graph barely moves. The screen is the one thing to know before buying. Mini LED is superb for games and film, genuinely bright, but a terminal with white text on a black background shows a halo around every line. You adapt, or you turn the local dimming down and lose most of the contrast. Two months in I have settled on leaving it on and living with it.

Every port you could want, including full size HDMI and Ethernet
Fan noise on Turbo is genuinely loud
The port selection alone decided it for me. Ethernet, HDMI, an SD reader and enough USB that nothing I own needs an adapter, which after a decade of carrying a dongle pouch feels like a small miracle! Performance is exactly as advertised. Everything at maximum, no hesitation, no stuttering. Turbo is loud enough that headphones are not optional, but the balanced profile is quiet and gives up very little, and that is where it stays.

Set up in twenty minutes and straight into work
You will want a bigger desk
It arrived, it went on the desk, it took up most of the desk, and then it proceeded to do in an afternoon what the old machine would have needed all week for. No regrets whatsoever, other than about the desk!
Used for: More than a year
A year of heavy use and no slowdown at all
The battery has clearly lost some capacity
Performance has held up completely, which for a machine that spends its life at full tilt is the main thing. What has changed is the battery. A year on it manages about two thirds of what it did when new, which matters less than it might because it lives plugged in, but it is worth knowing if you were hoping to work away from a socket. Everything else is as it was. The fans are still loud and the screen is still magnificent.

192GB means the virtual machines all stay open
Absurd amount of memory and I am using every bit of it!
Used for: 6–12 months
It does everything asked of it and the only reason this is not five stars is the weight. Nobody should be surprised by an 18 inch machine being heavy, but with the charger it is close to five kilos and that is a different category of bag. Seven months in nothing has faltered. The fans are loud on the top profile and perfectly civil on the middle one, and it stays on the middle one because the difference on screen is small

Still the quickest thing in the house
It has its own corner of the desk
Ten months in and it has not once been the bottleneck

Screen brightness makes HDR games look like a different medium
The keyboard flexes in the middle under a firm press
Everything about the performance has been what I hoped for, so the four stars come from the build. Press firmly in the middle of the keyboard and the deck gives noticeably, which on a machine this expensive is not what I expected to find in the first week. It does not affect typing and it may well never matter. It is just there every time I notice it. The rest is excellent, the screen especially, and the cooling copes with a long session without the temperatures going anywhere frightening, 77 degrees at the worst I have seen.

Handles a full render and a game at the same time
It is not a laptop you use on a lap
Bought this to replace both a workstation and a gaming machine, and it has swallowed both jobs without complaint. A long render in the background does not stop me playing something in the foreground, which was never possible before. Where it falls down is anything resembling portability. The base gets hot enough under load that it lives on a desk permanently, and the charger is the sort of thing you notice in a bag. It has moved rooms twice and that is the extent of its travelling. As a desktop that happens to fold shut, though, it is superb, and the screen is far better than the monitor it sits next to.

Nothing I have thrown at it has caused a stutter
The lighting under the trackpad cannot be fully switched off
Enormous, loud when pushed, and quite comfortably the fastest laptop on sale at this size!
