Bought this for a Gen5 board specifically to have the fastest drive available, and it delivers on the numbers while raising a question about whether the numbers matter. Copying between this and a Gen4 drive, the Gen4 drive is the limit. Copying within this drive, it is astonishing. Loading a game, indistinguishable. The one place I have genuinely felt it is opening very large project files, where something that took nine seconds now takes three. The heatsink deserves its own paragraph. It is huge, it blocks the top PCIe slot on some boards, and it made fitting the drive a twenty minute job with the graphics card removed. It also keeps the drive at 52 degrees under load without a fan, which is the trade.

The headline number on this is 14,000 megabytes a second and the first thing worth saying is that yes, it really does that, and the second is that almost nothing you do will ask it to. Installed on a Gen5 slot with the enormous bundled heatsink, which is the size of a small radiator and needed the graphics card out to fit. Once in, benchmarks came back at 13,800 read, close enough. Game loading is a fraction of a second quicker than the Gen4 drive it replaced, and file copies within the same drive fly. The heatsink is genuinely the deciding factor here. It works, temperatures never went past 54 under a sustained write, but check your clearances before ordering because it is not a small thing.

Three 8K streams and a render at once with no dropped frames
Went into a video editing build where the working drive is genuinely the bottleneck, and this has removed it. Pulling three streams of 8K off the same drive while writing the render out no longer causes dropped frames, which was the whole reason for the upgrade. It runs at 48 degrees doing that, with no fan on it at all, which for a Gen5 drive I did not think was possible!

The heatsink forced me to rearrange the whole build
Living with a Gen5 drive for the better part of a year has been more interesting than I expected, and mostly in ways the reviews do not cover. The speed is real. A 300GB project folder copies onto it in well under a minute and the drive holds above 10GB/s for most of that, which is genuinely startling the first time you see it. Nothing about ordinary computing feels different, though. Windows boots at the same speed as it did on a Gen3 drive because boot time stopped being about the disk years ago. What has actually mattered is the heatsink. It is enormous, it fouled my top graphics card slot so the card had to move down, and it turned a five minute install into an evening of rearranging. It does keep the drive cool, 51 degrees under the worst load I can generate, so I cannot complain about the result, only about the planning it demanded.
