This one lives in a drawer in a dock and comes out on the first of the month to take a copy of everything. Spins up in a few seconds, does the job, goes back in the drawer. Not elegant, but nothing else needs plugging in for it to work

Three stars, and the drive is not really at fault, but somebody should say this plainly: a datacentre disk in a domestic case is a different animal. In a rack full of fans nobody would notice. In a mid tower on a hollow desk it resonates, and the sound came up through the desktop into my wrists. Foam washers under the mounting screws and moving the tower to the floor fixed most of it, and a fortnight on I have stopped noticing. Speed and temperature are both excellent, and the SMART page was clean on arrival, which is more than can be said for the pulls people sell as new.

Went into a four bay box running TrueNAS alongside three older disks and it is quietly the best of them. Scrubs finish sooner, it runs a couple of degrees cooler, and it has never once dropped out of the pool. Several months in, not one checksum error.
