The extra DSP means the mix stays on the interface and not on the laptop
Went QUAD rather than DUO because the DUO ran out of processing on the last big session, and that has proved to be the right call, with a full vocal chain on four inputs and headroom still on the meters. Most of a year in, the fanless case has never got more than warm. It does need a hub though if your laptop only has the one port, and that is another thing to buy on top of an already eye watering total.

First interface I have owned that arrived with a sound rather than a spec sheet. The 1073 emulation on the input is the one I keep coming back to, and it is doing the work in real time rather than eating the laptop. Came from a USB box that needed its buffer at 512 to survive a session with plugins on. This sits at 64 with a full mix running and the round trip is under three milliseconds. My playing improved the same afternoon, which tells you how much the old latency was costing me!

Rock solid on a Windows machine, which I did not expect
The included software wants an account, an installer and half an afternoon
Setting the thing up took longer than recording the first track: account, licence manager, plugin authorisation, firmware. Once that was done though it has not asked for anything since. The preamps are quiet enough that a ribbon microphone is usable without a booster, and that was the test I bought it for.

The DSP does the heavy lifting so the laptop stays cool
Quietest preamps I have ever recorded through, no contest
Used for: More than a year
Bought it for mixing and it turned into the tracking box as well. Everything that goes down now goes through a preamp emulation first, and mixes come together faster because the decisions are already made. Over a year of near daily use and the only fault has been my own cable.

Sounds better than the price of it, which is saying something
Two inputs only, so a band still needs a second box
Straight into a Thunderbolt port on the laptop and it simply appeared, no drivers to hunt down and nothing at all to restart
