Bought for a conference room where the ceiling camera is USB and the room system only takes HDMI, which usually ends in an expensive box with a fan in it. This is neither expensive nor noisy. Eight months of daily meetings and it has come up with the room every time, at 1080p60, with no handshake nonsense when the display wakes. The one thing I would ask for is a mounting point. It ends up cable-tied to a bracket because there is nowhere to screw it down, which feels agricultural next to the rest of the kit.

The job here was a community centre with a PTZ camera on the balcony and a projector at the front, and no computer in the chain because whoever is on duty is a volunteer rather than a technician. This adapter is what made that possible: the camera goes into it over USB, HDMI comes out the other side and goes to a splitter, and there is nothing for anybody to click. It has run four months of events like that without a single call. Picture is sharp at 1080 and the delay is small enough that the sound from the desk still lines up. The only awkwardness is the cable stiffness at the USB end, which wants a bit of slack or it puts a strain on the camera's socket.

Four stars and the missing one is documentation rather than hardware. The box tells you almost nothing about what resolutions and frame rates it will actually pass, and my camera offers several that it quietly refuses. Working out that it wanted 1080 at 30 rather than 60 took a good hour of plugging and unplugging with a monitor on the desk, and there is no indicator on the unit to help you. Once you know what it likes, it is excellent. Feed it something it accepts and the output is instant, clean, and stays locked however long the session runs. I have had it going for a five hour shoot without a wobble. Build is solid too, a proper metal shell that acts as a heatsink rather than the plastic dongle I was half expecting at this price.

We stream a Sunday service and the camera at the back used to have to go through a laptop before it reached the switcher, which meant somebody minding software all morning. This takes the camera straight to HDMI and the switcher sees it as any other source. Setup was plugging it in. No drivers, no app, no menu to argue with. It takes its power over USB from the same brick as the camera, so there is one fewer plug on the desk than I expected!
