  • AFAmelia F.9 August 2026

    Used for: 3–6 months

    Pros

Barcodes scan first time from across the bay

    Cons

    The peel-off option costs extra

    Comment

Six months of pallet and carton labels and the print is as black at the end of a ribbon as at the beginning. Barcodes scan first time from across the bay, which the cheap machines could never promise

  • JCJack C.30 July 2026

    Used for: 1–3 months

    Comment

Bought on the strength of the older model it replaces, and it is not quite the same machine. The print is fine and the speed is certainly there, but the media path is fussier about anything other than Zebra's own rolls: our usual third-party labels wander about a millimetre over a long run, enough that the barcode drifts towards the edge. Going back to the branded stock cured it and added noticeably to the cost.

    Used for: 3–6 months

    Pros

Two shifts a day and it never flags

    Comment

The reason for spending this rather than a third of it is the duty cycle. We print around 4,000 labels a day across two shifts and the ZT620 does not warm up, slow down or ask for a rest in between. Setting it up on the network took our systems chap twenty minutes, and it takes ZPL from the warehouse system exactly as the manual describes, which cannot be said of everything we have bought this year.

    Used for: 1–3 months

    Pros

    The hardware itself is faultless

    Cons

The setup utility is a museum piece

    Comment

Three stars is about the software rather than the printer. The hardware is superb and I would buy it again tomorrow. Zebra's setup utility, on the other hand, is a museum piece: it found the printer on the network, then lost it, then found it again under a different name, and the firmware update gave us an afternoon of nervous watching. Our labels are designed in a third-party package now and the printer treated as a dumb device, which works perfectly and should not have been necessary.

  • MCMillie C.23 June 2026

Used for: More than a year

    Pros

Maintenance is a wipe and the odd roller

    Cons

Far too loud for anywhere but a factory

    Comment

Been on the line here since last summer, printing carton labels into a wrapper, and the only maintenance has been a printhead clean every few weeks and one new platen roller. It is loud, mind. In an office you would not tolerate it for an hour, but in a factory it is one noise among many and the print quality has never once wavered.

  • AMAmelia M.16 June 2026

    Used for: 3–6 months

    Pros

Runs happily in a cold store lobby

    Cons

Auto calibration gets about one roll in ten wrong

    Comment

Built like something off a factory floor, which is precisely what it is. Ours runs in a cold store lobby and in five months it has not missed a label, though the display is hard to read through the door glass so somebody always has to walk over. Calibration after a roll change is automatic and gets it right nine times in ten. The tenth wants a manual feed.

  • ABArthur B.14 June 2026

    Used for: 1–3 months

    Pros

Resin ribbon print survives weeks outdoors

    Cons

Ribbon costs are a shock after direct thermal

    Comment

Our labels go on drums that live outside, so the real test was whether thermal transfer with a resin ribbon would survive a Yorkshire winter on wet steel. So far it has: nothing has smudged or lifted, and the print is still crisp after a fortnight of rain. The machine is enormous and the door swings wide, so measure the bench before ordering. Four stars only because the ribbon cost is a shock after years of direct thermal.

  • ANAmelia N.13 June 2026

Used for: More than a year

    Pros

    Utterly dependable

    Cons

Not a machine for a small room

    Comment

Runs all day, every day, and has never skipped a label!

  • GEGeorge E.10 June 2026

    Used for: 6–12 months

    Pros

Anybody on shift can change a roll now

    Cons

    The setup software is Windows-only

    Comment

Ribbon and media both load without tools, which sounds a minor thing until you are the one doing it with cold hands in a doorway. The mechanism is obvious enough that anybody on the shift can change a roll, not just the supervisor!

  • OCOscar C.6 June 2026

    Used for: 3–6 months

    Pros

Stays ahead of two packers at once

    Comment

Prints all day at a speed nobody in despatch can keep up with, and a ribbon lasts far longer than the desktop machines ever managed!

  • INIvy N.5 June 2026

    Used for: 1–3 months

    Cons

Heavy enough to need a proper bench under it

    Comment

Replaced a pair of desktop label printers in our despatch area with one of these, and the queue at the packing bench simply vanished. It takes a 6-inch pallet label without any of the fiddling the old ones needed, and a ribbon change is a lever and half a minute rather than a job for the one person who knew the trick.
