Everything about this case has been right, so the only useful thing I can add is the list of small things I would change. The fabric on the outside holds onto dust and shows every mark, and a damp cloth leaves it darker where you wiped. The inner lining is lovely but sheds a little onto the screen, so the first few weeks involved a lot of wiping before writing. And the fold, while stable, needs a firm press to set, which is awkward standing on a train. None of it is serious. Ten months in the case is doing its job and the reader is unmarked, which is the whole point of the exercise.

Light enough that it does not undo the reason for buying a thin reader, which was my worry after a heavier case on the previous device. The cover is stiff card under fabric rather than moulded plastic, so it stays flat rather than curling. Two years in it has curled very slightly at the corner, which is fair enough. The reader has never been damaged in a bag with it on.

Through two winters in a rucksack and the reader inside has not picked up a scratch. The fabric has gone slightly pale along the top edge where it rubs, but the magnets hold as well as they did. A year on, still the case I would choose.

The case is fine. The problem is what it does to the writing angle. Folded into its wedge, the reader sits at about the angle you would want for typing rather than writing, so your hand is at a slight tilt all the time and the heel of it rests on the cover rather than the screen. After an hour of notes I can feel it in my wrist. Flat on a desk it is perfect.

Five stars for a case that has done everything asked of it, and one warning about the pen. The loop on the side is elastic, and elastic stretches. Mine now holds the stylus loosely enough that it has fallen out twice inside a bag, and both times I only noticed because the pen was rattling around the bottom. A magnetic channel like the bigger model has would have solved it. Everything else, the fit, the flap, the wake and sleep, is exactly right.

Two things worth knowing that the listing does not tell you. The cover folds back into a wedge that props the reader at a writing angle, and the wedge is stable enough on a train table that I do not hold it. Second, the blue is a deep navy rather than the bright blue in the photograph, which I prefer but you may not. Otherwise it is a plain, well-fitted case that does not get in the way.

Bought this and the bigger version for two people in the house, and this is the better of the pair. The reason is weight. The Air is a thin device and this case respects that: a fabric cover, a light tray, and nothing that turns it into a book. It shuts flush, wakes the screen when you open it, and props at a decent angle for reading in bed. The blue is a proper navy, which is a relief after the plastic-looking blues you usually get at this price. Nine months of use and no fraying at the fold or the corners. Four rather than five only because a pen holder should not be an elastic loop.

Sensible case at a sensible price, and the fit round the buttons and the charging port is accurate enough that nothing needs forcing. My one gripe is the cover, which does not stay shut on its own. There is no magnet along the outer edge, so it opens in a bag and the screen ends up against whatever is in there.
