Fixed a speed problem I had blamed on the router
The blue is very visible on a light wall
The old cable to our loft office was an unbranded thing from a market stall that gave us 94 down on a 500 line and had everyone convinced the internet was rubbish. Swapped in this and the same machine sees 480 in the same spot, on the same router. Nine months in and it has not so much as blinked. It is on the thick side and the blue stands out against magnolia, but ours is clipped along the back of a wardrobe so nobody sees it.

Measures the full 20 metres, not 19 and a bit
Bare latch with no shroud to protect it
Wanted 20 metres and got 20 metres, which is not always the case with the cheap stuff, and the connectors are properly moulded rather than crimped and shrink-wrapped. Docked a star because the latch has no shroud on it and I have already caught one on a bag strap. Speed is exactly what the line gives, no loss at length. Three weeks in with nothing else to report.

Long enough to go the sensible way round a shop
Too thick and round to hide under a floor strip
Twenty metres to reach a shop counter from the back office, which sounds mad until you realise it has to go round the stockroom rather than through the wall between them. Went in on Sunday morning with a bag of P clips and the till and the card machine have been solid since. One warning: this is round, thick Cat 6a and it does not want to sit under a floor edging strip. I ended up boxing the last two metres into trunking instead of hiding it under the mat, which cost me an extra trip to the merchant.

Carries the ceiling access point without a stutter
Feeds a ceiling access point above the landing. It is stapled along a joist in the loft where nobody will ever look at it, so the colour does not matter up there, and the AP has not dropped a client since!
Used for: 6–12 months
Happy in an unheated garage
Stiff enough that a tight corner needs a clip
Runs from the router, through a wall bush into the garage, and into a five-port switch on the workbench. Eight months of damp mornings out there and it still shows a clean gigabit both ways.
Used for: More than a year
Two of these have been in the ceiling void of a church hall since the sound desk was moved, one to the desk and one spare taped alongside for whenever it is needed. Neither has needed a thought since!

A proper blue that actually helps in a rack
The boot is long and crowds the next port
Blue was deliberate. Everything in our little rack is colour coded, blue for the desks, grey for the access points, and this being an actual blue rather than a washed out teal made labelling the patch panel much easier. It is a good stiff Cat 6a, which is fine when it is going into a cabinet and less fine when you want it to turn a tight corner behind a monitor arm. Five months in and the only thing I would change is the boot, which is long enough that on the switch it sits proud and fouls the port next to it if you have leads either side.

Colour tells you which one is the uplink
Blue makes it obvious which lead is the uplink when six of them look identical!
