Silent at idle, cold under load, and 12GB is enough for 1440p
Long for a Dual-branded card
The zero-RPM behaviour is the standout. Below 50C the fans stop completely and the only thing I hear is the CPU cooler. Under load the core settles at 66C with a hotspot about eleven degrees higher. The name suggests a compact card and it is not particularly, at 267mm, so measure before assuming it is the small one!

Undervolts brilliantly and runs cold afterwards
Left at stock it draws around 250W and sits in the high sixties. A 925mV curve holds the same clocks, drops that to about 210W, and takes the core down to 62C with the fans under 1200rpm. The card is then genuinely silent behind a closed panel. Worth the twenty minutes it takes to set up. Ten weeks of that and it has not drifted from the curve once. Four stars because at this price the 12GB feels like the bare minimum rather than generous.

Sits in a machine used for 1440p gaming and a fair bit of video work, and it has handled both without any drama. The 12GB is enough for editing 4K timelines with a couple of effects tracks, and encoding is far quicker than the card it replaced thanks to the newer encoder. Thermals are unremarkable in the best sense, mid sixties under a long export with fans I cannot pick out over the case. No coil whine at all. The best part of a year of that and nothing has changed.

Quiet and quick
Longer than expected
Excellent for 1440p, just check your case depth

Persistent black screens under load that no driver version has fixed
Wanted to like this card and cannot. The fault is a hard black screen with the fans ramping to full, always under sustained load and never at the desktop. It has happened in three different games and once during a video export, so it is not one title misbehaving. I have been through four driver versions including a clean install, moved it to a different PCIe slot, and swapped the PSU cable for a fresh one. Nothing changes it. Temperatures are unremarkable, the core never gets past 70C before it drops out, so it is not thermal. A few months of that now and I am no closer to finding it. Two stars because when it is running it is a good 1440p card, and that is the frustrating part.

The 8-pin sits at the very end of the board, which fouls a front radiator
No complaints about how it performs, it is quick and it is quiet. The connector placement is the only annoyance, right at the far end of the card where the cable then needs another 30mm of clearance and my front radiator wanted the same space.
Used for: Less than a month
First card I have bought new rather than second hand and the difference in peace of mind is worth something. It went in with one cable, took the driver on the first attempt and has run 1440p at high settings ever since. The only note is that ASUS ship it with a rather conservative fan curve, so it runs a few degrees warmer than it needs to. Easy to change!
