The battery still runs a whole evening on one charge, and that is after two years of garden parties. 4 hours or so with the lights on, longer with them off, which is plenty for a barbecue. The echo control is the thing that makes it work. Set it about a third of the way up and everyone sounds better than they are; leave it flat and the whole thing falls apart. Feedback only happens when somebody wanders behind the speaker still singing, and after the first song nobody does!

Got it for my daughter's birthday and it kept a room of 10 children going all afternoon. Loud enough for a front room without being painful, and the echo knob is the difference between a child sounding terrified and sounding like a pop star. It does howl if the mic gets within about a metre of the grille, so keep the two apart!
