Four stars because the layout took longer to settle into than I was told it would. On a 75% board the function row is there but everything else is a combination, and for the first fortnight I was looking at a printed cheat sheet taped to the monitor for delete, home and end. It does become automatic. It just is not automatic on day one. The board itself is lovely. Dense, dead quiet on the stabilisers, and the gasket mount gives just enough under a heavy hand that my knuckles have stopped aching by the evening. My one real gripe is that the OLED needs Armoury Crate running to show anything beyond a clock, and Armoury Crate is a large and opinionated piece of software that wants to manage every ASUS part in the machine. I want a screen, not a suite.

It sounds finished, which is not something I have been able to say about a board straight out of a box before. No ping, no hollow note under the space bar, and the switches are already lubed to a standard I would have spent a Saturday trying to reach. The kit in the box is therefore slightly odd: a tub of lube, a brush, a switch opener and a stand, all for a board that needs none of it out of the gate. Lovely presentation, mind. Three days is not long enough to judge durability, so treat the five stars as a first impression rather than a verdict.

The white version was the reason I looked at all, and it has not yellowed a bit yet, though I am keeping it out of direct sun on principle. The caps are a slightly warm white rather than the blue-white in the photographs, which honestly looks better in a room with lamps. Sound out of the box is deep and dry. I pulled a few switches to try the supplied lube and put them straight back, because I could not improve on it. That is not something I expected to write!

Coming off a board with clicky blues, the thing my partner noticed first was the silence from the next room. These are tactile without the report, and a video call no longer sounds like someone is doing joinery in the background. That alone justified the swap in a flat this size. What I did not anticipate was how much the weight matters. It sits on four rubber feet and simply does not travel, even when a game gets frantic and the left hand is doing things it should not. My old board used to end the evening a good few inches from where it started. Four months of this one and it has not shifted once!

Half my day is invoices and I did not think about the numpad until the first time I needed one. A separate pad now lives to the left of the board, which is arguably a better arrangement anyway, but it is an extra purchase nobody warns you about.

Nothing has gone wrong, which is the whole of the report. No key has started chattering, no cap has gone shiny, and the stabilisers are as silent as the day I set it up, eight months on. The white has stayed white. Battery is the part that surprised me. With the lighting off and the screen on its low setting I charge it roughly once a month, and even then it warns me long before it stops. Turn the RGB up and that collapses to about a week, which is the trade everyone makes. The volume knob sits where my hand goes for delete and I still catch it about once an evening!

Swapped the factory switches for a set of linears shortly after it arrived, which is the entire reason to buy a hot-swap board, and the sockets took them without a single bent pin. The sound went from a firm thock to something softer and lower. Anyone considering this should factor in that a second set of switches is another chunk of money on top of an already eye-watering price. Four stars rather than five, and it is all software. Armoury Crate will not configure the board without an ASUS account, and the account wants an email you will then hear from. The keyboard itself deserves five. The wrapper around it does not, and on a board costing this much that is not a small thing to shrug off.
