Holds its shape instead of collapsing round the machine
The front pocket cannot take a modern charger
Came off a padded envelope of a sleeve that had gone floppy, and the difference is immediate: this one stands up on its own on the desk. The fit on a 16in machine is honest, which is more than the last two I tried managed. Where I would push back is the pocket. It is sold as a place for a charger and a cable, but the modern bricks are fat and the zip strains once anything is in there, so I have gone back to keeping the charger loose in the rucksack. The sleeve itself is excellent. The pocket is decoration.

Lining is soft enough not to mark the lid
A 14in machine has a bit of room to move
Ordered it for a 14in Dell rather than a 16in and there is a little slack, though nothing that lets the machine slide about. The felt lining has not marked the lid at all.

Zip goes right round, so the laptop lifts out flat
The black shows every speck of dust
Three of us in the team ended up with these after the first one turned up in a meeting. What sold it was the way the opening sits: the zip runs the full length of one side and round both corners, so the machine comes out flat rather than being tugged upwards past a stiff lip. Small thing until you do it a dozen times between meetings. Padding is the other half. The base has a proper foam slab in it and the corners are built up, so putting it down on a hard floor is not a moment of dread. It is smart enough for a client office and it does not shout a brand name at anyone!

Zip pulls you can actually hold on to
Zips run smoothly and the pulls are big enough to grab with gloves on, which nobody ever thinks about!

Genuinely fits a 16in machine, unlike the last one I bought
The 16in MacBook goes in without any of the shoving my last sleeve needed, and there is still room for a slim charger in the front pocket. Corners are properly padded rather than just quilted, so setting it down on a station bench does not make me wince. Handles are a neat touch when you carry it on its own!
Used for: 1–3 months
Bought it to stop the work machine rattling about loose in a tote. It has a stiffness to it that the cheap neoprene ones lack, so the sleeve holds its shape when empty and the laptop does not press against whatever else is in the bag. Looks like something you would carry into an office, too!
Used for: More than a year
The base padding has earned its keep more than once
The shoulder strap is an afterthought
Two winters of daily commuting and the only wear is a slight shine where the strap clip sat before I gave up on the strap. The padding at the base is still doing its job; I dropped it corner-first onto a tiled floor at work last spring and the machine inside did not so much as flicker. A year on I would happily buy the same one again.
Used for: 6–12 months
Still looks new
Only comes in the one colour
Eight months in and it still looks like it did in the photos
Used for: 6–12 months
Fits inside a rucksack without a fight
Slides into the rucksack with the laptop still inside, which is the whole point of it
Used for: 3–6 months
Shrugs off a drizzle without a cover
The front pocket is too shallow for a mouse
Rain on the walk up from the station is the test that matters here, and the outer shrugs it off. Four months in the black still looks new, no bobbling on the corners where it rubs the rucksack.
