This has replaced a full tower for me, and nine months on I have not missed the desktop. The Ultra 9 handles everything I throw at it, including some fairly heavy video work alongside gaming, and the 32GB has not once been the bottleneck. Thermals sit around 85 under a long session with the fans on the balanced profile, which is warm but sensible for an 18 inch chassis. What nobody tells you is the logistics. With the charger it is close to four kilos, and most rucksacks simply will not take an 18 inch machine. Mine lives on the desk and only moves for holidays.

First proper gaming laptop after a lifetime of building desktops, and the thing that surprised me most is how little compromise there is. It arrived, it updated, it ran. The keyboard is quiet enough for evening work, the trackpad is large and does not fight me, and the screen makes my old monitor look tired. The only adjustment so far has been learning where ASUS hide the performance modes.

My only regret is not buying one sooner. Everything loads instantly, the panel is bright enough to use next to a window, and the port selection means my monitor, dock and external drive all connect without a hub cluttering the desk!

Bought it as a desktop replacement and it has more than done the job so far. Games at native resolution without complaint. Just do not plan on carrying it far, my shoulder knows about it!

Upgraded from a 15 inch machine and the extra screen real estate has changed how I work as much as how I play. So far the 32GB has been plenty for gaming with a browser full of tabs and a couple of virtual machines open. Unplugged it manages about ninety minutes of light work, so treat it as a desktop replacement and nothing else. On mains it is untouchable!

The SCAR has never once thermal throttled on me, not in a long session, not in summer. The 18 inch screen is glorious. Carrying it to LAN nights is the only pain

Still working out the fan profiles on this thing. On Turbo the machine is genuinely loud, loud enough that headphones stop being optional, but the CPU sits under 90 during long sessions which is better than the last gaming laptop I owned. Build quality is superb, the lid barely flexes, and the keyboard has more travel than I expected. Losing a star for the charger, which is a brick the size of the laptop's own footprint in a bag.
