The flip screen is why I chose this over the obvious alternative. Filming yourself talking on a walk is guesswork without it, and being able to see the frame has saved me re-shooting half of everything. Low light is better than I expected from something this size, and the noise reduction does not smear faces into wax. Wind noise is still wind noise without a cover. Two months in and it has already replaced the old one on every trip.

Came from a phone gimbal and this is a different job entirely, which took me a fortnight to properly understand. It is not a tidy vlogging camera, it is a thing you bolt to something and forget. What it does well: the screen, the mounting, the way the footage comes off it already looking finished. Battery lasts through a morning of stop-start clips. What it does badly: heat. Left recording continuously in a car on a warm day it stopped itself, and there is no warning worth the name before it does. Also the case needed a firm push to close properly, which never stopped feeling like I was about to break it.

Straight onto the chest mount for a mountain bike weekend and every clip came back usable. The stabilisation holds the horizon flat through rock gardens that would have made the old camera unwatchable. Simple to set up, no manual needed!

Ordered it for a diving holiday and the housing did its job at depth without a single drop of water getting in. Buttons work through it, which sounds obvious until you have used one that does not. Colour underwater needs the filter, and with it on the footage looks like the sea rather than a swimming pool. The screen is bright enough to see through a mask, which was the thing I was least sure about.

On its second season on the motorbike now and it has lived through a British winter mounted on the outside, salt, grit and all. The lens glass has held up better than the paint on the mount. Four stars rather than five for two reasons: it is noticeably heavier than the rivals once the case is on, and the touchscreen is hopeless in gloves. Neither matters if it lives on a helmet, both matter if you take it off a lot.
