Chose the 16 inch over the 18 because it still has to go in a bag occasionally, and nothing has been lost in the cooling. Five months of long solves and it has held its clocks throughout, with the fans loud but constant rather than surging up and down. The palm rest stays cool, which is the part that matters.

No complaints at all about how it works, but the panel is the weak part. Colours are fine and brightness is adequate, and next to the 16 inch MacBook it replaced it looks distinctly ordinary. Everything else is in a different league

The first thing I did was open it, which sounds odd until you have owned a machine you cannot. One latch, the bottom comes off, and both memory slots and the drives are right there. That alone puts it ahead of everything else I looked at. Performance is exactly what a workstation should be, which is to say boring. It starts a job, it finishes the job, it does not think about it. Certified drivers meant the CAD package installed and ran without the usual afternoon of arguing. Four stars only because of the weight and the charger, which between them make this a machine you move rather than carry. I knew that going in, but it is worth saying plainly for anyone imagining a laptop.

Deployed straight into a workflow that has broken every other machine we have tried and it simply worked. The certified drivers are not marketing, they are the reason it took one afternoon rather than the usual battle. Four stars because the machine is enormous for a 16 inch and the charger is bigger still. Nobody will be surprised by that, but if you are coming from a thin and light you will feel it in the bag the first time you carry both.
