Our old machine took the best part of a minute to think before anything happened, and that is the single reason this one is here. Send a page and it appears, with no ritual attached. Duplex is quick enough that nobody switches it off to save time, and the tray holds enough paper that the school office is not feeding it every morning before assembly. It is mono, which is exactly what an office printing letters and forms should be buying. Colour would be a distraction and a cost.

Sits on the counter of a village post office and has printed everything from customs forms to the notice about Wednesday closing. A year on it has not jammed once, and a post office counter is not a gentle place to live: dust, damp coats, and a cat that sleeps on the paper tray. Toner is cheap and easy to get hold of, which matters more than anything on the spec sheet!
