Used for: Less than a month

    Pros

Running at a quarter of its rating means it never gets warm

    Cons

Heavy, and it needs room behind for the cables to turn

    Comment

First build since university and I over specified everything, this included. The brief was a 5080 and a 9800X3D that would stay quiet in a small room, and the reasoning behind two thousand watts was that a supply loafing at a quarter of its rating runs cooler and turns its fan less than one working hard. That has turned out to be exactly right. The wall meter reads 480W with a game running and the fan has not moved once. The things nobody mentions: it weighs a lot, so support it while you screw it in, and the flat cables need a surprising amount of room behind the unit to turn. Otherwise faultless. No whine, no click, no heat.

    Pros

12V rail does not move under a load that swings a kilowatt

    Comment

Bought this for a machine that has to do 3D renders overnight and game in the evening, which means the load profile swings from 90W to about 1,300W within a second of me clicking start. It handles that better than anything I have owned. No droop, no reboot, no click. The monitoring app shows the 12V rail and it does not move more than a couple of hundredths under any load I can create, which is what you are actually paying for at 2000 watts. What costs it a star is the software. It wants to run at startup, it wants an account, and half the tabs are for RGB I do not have. The fan control inside it is worth having though, because the default curve is more eager than it needs to be and you can flatten it. Five months of nightly renders and nothing has drifted.

Two thousand watts. Never heard it once!

    Used for: 6–12 months

    Pros

The rail monitoring caught a loose connector before it did any harm

    Cons

The app is heavier than it needs to be

    Comment

The reason to buy the i version rather than the plain Toughpower is the readout, and I will admit I was sceptical. It has turned out useful: I found a badly seated 12V-2x6 lead because the app showed a rail dipping under load before anything visible went wrong. Otherwise it is a big, quiet, uneventful supply. Fan stays off through gaming. The only sound the machine makes is the CPU cooler. Nine months in and that is still true.

    Used for: 3–6 months

    Pros

So far under its ceiling the fan never runs

    Cons

Flat cables look industrial in a show build

    Comment

Went for the 2000W version because a friend talked me into planning for two cards, and although the second card has not happened the headroom means the fan sits still through everything I do. The socket meter tops out at 620W in the heaviest game I own. Cables are flat, which routes well but looks industrial.

    Pros

Room for a second card without a rethink

    Cons

    Enormous

    Comment

Absolute tank. Feeds a 4090 and leaves enough spare that I could add a second one tomorrow and not think about it!

    Comment

Three stars because of a noise, not a fault. There is a high, faint hiss from the unit whenever the machine is in a menu with an uncapped frame rate, and it goes away the moment I cap at 120. Classic coil noise. Under headphones it is irrelevant, in a silent room at night it is the loudest thing in the house. Everything else is as advertised. Voltages steady, fan off unless I am rendering, wall figure right where a PLATINUM unit should be. Four months in, the hiss has neither worsened nor gone away

    Comment

Powers a machine with a 5090, a 9950X3D and eight drives, and I have stopped worrying about the power supply entirely, which is the only review a PSU deserves. The one thing worth knowing is the physical size. It is 200mm and my case claimed to take 200mm, but with the flat cables plugged in and turned it needed closer to 230mm of usable depth. I moved the drive cage. Since then, nothing. No whine at any frame rate, no fan noise below about a kilowatt, no heat coming out of the back.
