Holds the household backups and the target for a nightly job from three machines, which is the sort of duty cycle these are built for. Eight months of that and it has not logged a single error. It does spin at 7200 and you can hear it, a definite whirr rather than the near silence of the 5400 drives, but it also finishes the backup window an hour earlier than the drive it replaced. The only thing I would raise is that two terabytes is starting to feel small for the money.

Chosen because it was on the compatibility list for the NAS and I could not be bothered with warnings. It has been exactly as dull as I hoped, which for a hard drive is the highest compliment available!

Straight into bay two of a four bay unit, recognised immediately, volume expanded and the whole thing was finished before dinner. The health management software in the NAS reads all the extended attributes properly, which is one of the reasons for buying the Pro version rather than the standard IronWolf. Sits at 41 degrees with the stock fan on auto, which is warmer than the 5400 drives but well within itself

Small by NAS standards but that was deliberate, it holds the working share that gets accessed constantly while the big drives handle the archive. Three years of power on hours and the SMART page is clean. Louder than the 5400 drives beside it, which is the price of the extra speed.

Went in as a replacement for a drive that had started to fail, and the swap itself was as simple as these things get. Rebuild ran overnight and the array came back healthy. Sequential throughput measures about 215MB/s which for a two terabyte 7200 drive is what the datasheet claims, so no surprises there. The reason it is four stars rather than five is entirely about capacity for money. Two terabytes at this price is a hard sell when the four and six terabyte versions of the same drive are barely more. I bought this size because the bay it went into is mirrored with an existing 2TB and I needed a match, but if you are starting fresh, look at the bigger ones first.
