The picture is not the issue, the software is. The interface has adverts on the home row, the Vision AI processing needs turning off from three separate menus, and the set takes a good twenty seconds from cold before it will accept a remote press. At this money the experience of simply using it should be better than a supermarket television. Nine months of updates have not made it any quicker to wake up.

Bought mainly for sport and gaming in a bright south-facing lounge, and it is the first television I have owned that does not wash out in the afternoon. The 144Hz panel is wasted on broadcast content but comes into its own on a console at 4K120. Game mode strips out the processing and the response feels immediate. Vision AI upscaling on old material is better than expected!

The thing nobody warns you about is how much the room has to change around a screen this big. We moved the sofa back nearly a metre and it is still close. Below about three and a half metres you start to see the panel structure on bright flat areas, and your eyes track around the picture rather than taking it in. Four months on and I still would not want to sit any closer. Once you have the distance right it is superb. Mini LED blooming is well controlled, only showing on white subtitles against a black background, and motion handling at 144Hz is clean on sport with the interpolation turned off.

A 115 inch screen in a room that was probably never designed for one, and I have no regrets. The scale takes a while to stop feeling absurd and then becomes the point. Football on this is closer to being at the ground than watching a broadcast. The Mini LED backlight is bright enough that daytime viewing with the curtains open is no problem at all, which an OLED this size would struggle with. Getting it into the room was the hard part!

As the centrepiece of a dedicated room the honest verdict is that it is magnificent at what it does well. Bright room performance is the headline. The anti-glare layer on this generation genuinely works, so afternoon sport with the blinds up looks like night-time viewing on the set it replaced. Peak brightness on highlights is enormous and HDR content has proper impact rather than a slightly lifted look. For gaming it is better than a 115 inch television has any right to be. 144Hz over HDMI 2.1, game mode input lag measured in single-figure milliseconds on my meter, and no discernible stutter in fast motion. Where it falls short is off-angle. Sit at the far end of a wide sofa and the blacks lift and the colours cool, which at this width happens more than you would think.
