Used for: More than a year
Has not missed a single session since it went up
Heavy enough that the rig needed rethinking
Installed in a conference suite that runs most days of the week, and the running cost is the reason to buy one of these rather than something cheaper. There is no lamp to change, so the only maintenance in a year and a half has been a wipe of the lens. Brightness is genuinely eight thousand lumens worth: the room has a glass wall down one side and the picture holds up with the blinds half open, which nothing we had before managed. Budget for the mount. It is a heavy unit and the existing bracket was nowhere near rated for it, so a structural plate went in first, and the cable run was another day's work on top.
Used for: 6–12 months
Runs all day with no filter to clean and no lamp to buy
Bought for a lecture theatre that runs from first thing until late, and the laser has simply got on with it. Nothing to price up, nothing to pull out and wash, and the picture at the end of a long day looks the same as it did at the start. Rated for 20,000 hours, which at our usage is somebody else's problem. The thing to flag is weight. It took two of us and a proper bracket to get it onto the ceiling, and the fixings want the right plate rather than a universal one.
Used for: 1–3 months
Enormously bright, and the geometry correction genuinely works
Fan noise once it warms up is not for a quiet room
For a hall this is the right tool, and the middle rating is about the fit rather than the build. Six weeks in, the noise is the thing nobody mentions: from cold it is discreet, but twenty minutes into a presentation the fans step up and anyone sitting directly under the mount hears it over the speaker. In a hall with a hundred people in it that vanishes completely. In a small room it would drive you mad, and at this brightness you would be running it in eco anyway.
Used for: Less than a month
Lights on and the image still holds up
Went into a church hall where the old projector had been fighting six windows and losing badly. This one does not care: full house lights, curtains open, and the words on the screen are still readable from the back row. Lens shift meant we could rig it well behind the seating without a stack of books under one end!
Used for: 1–3 months
Motorised lens shift saves an afternoon on a ladder
Rigged above a raked auditorium with the screen about 9 metres away, and everything that used to mean a ladder is now done from the handset: zoom, focus, shift, the lot. Alignment took minutes rather than the usual afternoon of climbing up and down squinting at a test pattern. Sharp corner to corner too, which on a screen this wide is the part that actually matters!
Used for: More than a year
Bright, quiet enough in eco, and utterly reliable
Two years on the same rig and it has never needed anything more than a clean lens
Used for: 3–6 months
The onboard speaker is a joke in a room this size
Superb image, but do not plan on using the sound that comes out of it. Everything here goes through the hall system, which was always the intention anyway.
