Used for: Less than a month

      Pros

SD reader saves carrying a separate one

      Cons

Ports sit close together, fat plugs fight

      Comment

Bought it mainly for the SD reader, because carrying a card reader and a hub about was daft. Cards come off the camera at around 80MB/s, which is as quick as the cards themselves go. The ports do sit close together though, so a fat memory stick will crowd whatever is beside it.

Used for: More than a year

      Pros

Two years on a desk and nothing has gone loose

      Cons

Warm enough under load to be worth mentioning

      Comment

Sits under a monitor arm as a permanent desk hub, which is a slightly different life to the one it was sold for, and it has coped. Everything goes in and stays in: two drives, a keyboard, a webcam and a screen on the HDMI. Under real load, meaning a drive copying while the screen is running, the aluminium body goes properly warm. Not alarming, but you would not want it wedged under a laptop where no air can reach it. It has never dropped a device on me because of it. Two years on and the USB-C plug is still tight, none of the sockets have gone sloppy and the little tail has not frayed where it leaves the body. Four stars purely for the heat.

Used for: More than a year

      Pros

Third hub I have owned and the first one to last

      Cons

The braided sleeve on the tail has started to fluff

      Comment

Third hub in this house and the first that has lasted more than a few months. The two before it were cheap marketplace ones at about a third of the price, and both went the same way: HDMI first, then the whole thing. This one has done two years. The braided sleeve on the tail has begun to fluff where it bends over the desk edge, and that is the only sign of age on it.

Used for: More than a year

      Pros

One plug in the morning and the whole desk is connected

      Cons

The tail could stand to be a little longer

      Comment

One plug in the morning and the whole desk comes alive. Cannot fault it

      Used for: 1–3 months

      Pros

Small enough to live in the laptop sleeve

      Comment

Flat enough to go into the sleeve with the laptop and be forgotten about

      Used for: 1–3 months

      Pros

Windows found everything with no drivers at all

      Comment

Plugged it into a ThinkPad and Windows had the lot working before I had put the box in the recycling. No driver disc, no download, no restart. That is how it ought to be!

      Used for: 3–6 months

      Pros

Handles a 4K screen and two drives at once

      Comment

Running a 4K monitor, two external drives and a keyboard powered off the hub all at once, with no complaints from any of them. Passthrough keeps the laptop topped up at 60W while that is going on, which the cheap hub before it could never manage. Warm, yes. Unstable, never!

    • LMLeo M.19 June 2026

Used for: Less than a month

      Pros

The ports themselves all do what is advertised

      Cons

Loses the display every time the laptop wakes from sleep

      Comment

Three stars, and it is entirely down to one behaviour. Shut the lid, come back after lunch, open it up, and the monitor on the HDMI does not come back. Keyboard and mouse do, the drive does, the screen does not. The only cure I have found is pulling the hub out of the laptop and pushing it back in, which I am now doing two or three times between nine and five. I have tried it on two machines, a ThinkPad and an XPS, with the same result on both, so I do not think this is the laptop. Updating the graphics driver made no difference either. When it is awake it is genuinely good: 4K comes up at 30Hz over HDMI exactly as the spec says, the card reader is quick and the body is solid metal rather than plastic. If you never let your machine sleep you will be delighted with it. I do let mine sleep.

      Used for: 6–12 months

      Pros

Ethernet is the reason it beat the cheaper ones

      Comment

The wired network socket is the whole reason this beat the cheaper hubs on my list

      Used for: 1–3 months

      Pros

Turned a single-port laptop into an actual workstation

      Comment

Got handed a laptop with exactly one USB-C socket and nothing else, which is fine right up until you need a mouse, a screen, a network cable and a phone charging at the same time. This turned it into a proper workstation for about the price of lunch out for two. What I had not expected was how much difference the card reader would make. I shoot a lot of photographs for work and the old routine was a cable to the camera and a great deal of waiting. Straight off the card is quicker and I am not flattening a camera battery to do it. Build is aluminium with a short braided tail, and the plug goes into the laptop with a proper click rather than the vague wobble the plastic one had. Nothing has come loose in six weeks of being pulled in and out daily!

      Used for: 1–3 months

      Pros

Does everything it says on the box

      Cons

      Ports crowd each other

      Comment

Solid little thing, ports a fraction too close
