Slim and quiet on a small desk
Ports on the back edge, out of reach against a wall
Perfectly good machine, but be aware the stand does not tilt much and the ports are all on the back edge, which on a desk against a wall means reaching round every time
Used for: 6–12 months
It does what it says, though I am lukewarm about it. The screen is soft, the memory is tight, and none of it can be improved, so what you buy is what you have for as long as you keep it
Used for: Less than a month
One object instead of four
Everything is now in one basket, for better or worse
Replaced a tower, a monitor, a set of speakers and a webcam with one object, and the desk went from a cable tray to a clean surface in about half an hour. Whether it is fast is almost beside the point — it is the first computer I have owned that I do not have to look at cables to use!
Used for: 6–12 months
Camera and speakers are genuinely fine for consultations
Eight gigabytes is the ceiling and you meet it
Runs the front desk of a physiotherapy clinic: bookings, payments, and three or four video consultations a week. The camera and the speakers have been perfectly adequate for that, which surprised me, because on the laptop it replaced everybody sounded like they were down a tunnel. Eight months in, no crashes, no updates that have gone wrong, and it gets wiped down with the same spray as everything else in the room. Eight gigabytes is the limit and you can feel it if you open too much, but for what it does it has been faultless!
Used for: 1–3 months
Full HD over a screen this size looks soft
As a piece of furniture it is exactly right: slim, one lead, and it makes a small desk look twice the size. As a monitor it is where I have reservations. Full HD spread across a screen this wide means text is noticeably softer than the laptop I use next to it, and once you have seen that you cannot unsee it. At normal desk distance it is fine for spreadsheets and email, though for anything you read all day I would want more pixels, and there is obviously no changing the screen on one of these
Used for: 1–3 months
A thin fan whine at ear level, because the machine is at eye level
It went into a study that doubles as a bedroom, so noise mattered more than speed. Most of the time it is inaudible. Under any real load, though, there is a small fan somewhere behind the screen that spins up to a thin whine, and because the whole machine is at eye level the noise is at ear level too, which is not where a tower's noise is. The other thing is warmth: after a long evening the top edge is hot enough to notice with a hand. Neither is a fault, and both are things nobody mentions about all-in-ones until you live with one.
Used for: More than a year
Has not been switched off since it arrived
Three years on the same reception counter and it has never once been switched off
Used for: Less than a month
Tidy on a small table with one cable
Eight gigabytes means one job at a time
Ordered one for the spare room so visitors have something to use that is not my laptop. It was ready in an evening, it looks tidy on a small table, and the only cable is the one going to the socket. Nothing at all to complain about so far!
