Allergen text readable right across the counter
Far more machine than a bakery needs
Bought for a family bakery that has started selling online, so every box now needs an ingredients label as well as a postage one. It does both from the same roll of blanks without us swapping anything over, and the print is dark enough that the allergen text is readable across the counter. It is far more machine than we need, but it will still be here in ten years!
Used for: More than a year
Shrugs off dust that killed the last machine
The ribbon door catch is stiff
On a bench in a builders' merchants where it prints rack labels and hazard tickets, and the dust in that place kills electronics. A year and a bit in, it has needed one printhead clean and nothing else, which is more than the previous machine managed in a season. The 300dpi print is sharp enough that our smallest part numbers scan without anybody squinting at them. Four stars because the ribbon door catch is stiff and one of the lads has been shown twice how to shut it.
Used for: 1–3 months
On the network without a laptop or a prayer
Small display for a machine this size
Our old label printer needed a laptop and a prayer. This one took an ethernet cable and printed a test label before anybody had opened the manual. Six weeks of daily use in a small warehouse and it has been faultless.
Used for: More than a year
Unchanged after two years in a workshop
Loud when the cutter goes
Two years in a workshop and it prints exactly as it did on day one
Used for: 1–3 months
No coaxing required
Overkill for a small shop
Prints a clear label every time and has never needed coaxing
