Real corner protection you can see
Much bulkier in the hand than the photos suggest
Ordered it on the strength of the corner design and it does look properly engineered up close, with hollow chambers at each corner rather than a lump of rubber. On the phone it is chunkier than the photos suggest. It fills a hand rather than disappearing into one, and it will not fit a slim armband or a bike mount that grips the sides. If you want protection that is the price you pay, and I would rather have the bulk than a cracked screen. Buttons click properly through it and the camera surround is tall. Wireless charging works, though it is slow through the back.
Used for: 1–3 months
The screen lip does what it claims
Bought for a phone that had already been dropped twice in its first fortnight of ownership, and there has been nothing since. The raised lip round the screen is the part that earns its money. It is tall enough that the glass genuinely does not touch the ground when the phone lands face down, which I have now confirmed more times than I would like!
Used for: More than a year
Worth knowing what the carbon finish actually is, because the photos are misleading. It is not carbon fibre, it is a moulded texture that looks like it under a light and feels like fine ridges under a thumb. That turns out to be better than the real thing, because it grips. A year and a half of daily use and the pattern has not polished flat where my fingers sit, which is where every glossy case I have owned gave itself away. The bezel is still proud of the glass too.
Used for: More than a year
Corner padding that has proved itself twice
Buttons have softened over time
The carbon pattern is a texture rather than a print, so it grips properly and does not wear smooth where you hold it. Corners have air pockets built in and the phone has been off a bike and down a flight of steps without a mark. A year and a half in the only complaint is that the buttons have gone slightly mushy.
Used for: 1–3 months
You forget the bulk quickly
Too thick for a bike mount
Fills the hand a bit but you stop noticing after a week or so
Used for: 3–6 months
It stays where you put it down
Grip is the thing here. The textured back means the phone stays on a car seat and on the arm of a chair instead of sliding to the floor, and the side ridges give a thumb something to push against when you are one-handed.

The bezel is tall enough that face-down means nothing
The soft frame goes tacky and collects lint
This is the case I buy for every phone in the family now, and I have had long enough with this one to know where it gives up. The protection is not in doubt. The bezel stands well proud of the screen, so face-down on gravel does nothing, and the corners have taken drops from a bike and off a kitchen worktop. The back is a hard shell with a softer frame around it, which is the right way round and means it does not stretch. Where it ages is the frame. The soft plastic round the edge has gone slightly tacky and picks up lint from a pocket, and no amount of washing brings it back. The clarity of the carbon pattern is unchanged, so it is only the frame. Still four stars. It has done its job for long enough that a slightly grubby edge is a fair trade.
