No roof fan mounts whatsoever
Five stars because the cooling is genuinely in another class, but two things are worth flagging. There are no top fan mounts at all, so if you had planned a roof radiator, plan again, everything goes in the front. And the enormous front fans are wonderful at low speed and quite loud above about sixty percent, which is a speed you will never need but the curve has to be set so you do not stray there.

Two big fans beat six small ones
The filter needs washing, not shaking
Two 180mm fans doing the work of six 120s is the whole idea and it is not marketing. My card runs seven degrees cooler than it did in a mesh mid tower with five fans, and the noise at the same load is lower because the big fans turn slowly. The open bottom intake feeds the PSU and the card directly. Eight months in, the only thing I would change is the dust story. The front is open and there is a filter, but it is a large filter that needs washing rather than shaking, so it is a sink job rather than a doorstep job.

All the Torrent cooling in less depth
Almost no room for drives
Chose this over the full size Torrent because the desk is only so deep, and I have not missed the extra height once. The compact keeps the same front fan pair and the same open floor, so cooling is barely different. What you lose is the drive cage and some radiator length. With a 360 in the front there is room for two SSDs behind the tray and nothing else, so if you keep a media library on spinning disks this is the wrong case. Everything else is Fractal doing what Fractal does. Panels that fit, paint that does not chip, screws that are the right length, a manual written by someone who has actually built a computer!

Silent fans and labelled screws
The fans are the quietest I have had in any chassis, and after two years of daily use they still spin up silently from cold. Fractal's habit of including a proper bag of labelled screws instead of a rattling bundle also deserves a mention, it is a small thing that says a lot!

Cool and quiet at once
Open front lets the room in
Coolest running box I have owned and the quietest, which should not both be true

Open front lets dust straight in
Four stars, and the missing one is entirely about living with it rather than using it. The open front looks great and breathes beautifully, and it also means the inside of the case is exposed to the room. Two years in and there is a fine layer on the underside of the top panel that no filter was ever going to catch, because the air comes in the front unfiltered by design at the sides. The second thing is the fan sizes. When one of the 180s eventually goes, replacements are not something you pick up cheaply, and a pair of 140s in the same frame will not move the same air. Worth knowing before you commit.
