MSI Center wants to install far too much
First card I have fitted myself and it could not have been simpler. One 8-pin, two screws, done in ten minutes, and the 550W supply already in the machine was plenty. 1080p at high runs above 120fps in everything my group plays. Only mark against it is the MSI Center software, which wants to install four things I did not ask for. Three weeks in and the machine has not missed a beat.

Great value
8GB
Doubles the frame rate of the card it replaced and costs less than that one did, two months in.
Used for: 6–12 months
Cool and silent
Only 8GB of VRAM
Never hear it, never see it above 65 degrees, never had a driver problem
Used for: More than a year
Still doing everything asked of it at 1080p, no complaints

Faultless hardware that has not aged a degree
This went into my son's machine and has been the least troublesome part in it. The fans have not developed any noise, the temperatures are where they were on day one at 63 degrees under load, and it has survived being moved between two cases and a house move. 1080p high in everything he plays, still above 100fps. The reason it is four rather than five is entirely the memory. He is starting to hit the 8GB in newer titles and will want a bigger card sooner than the chip itself deserves. As a piece of hardware it has been faultless.

Small, one 8-pin, silent at idle
8GB will be the limiting factor eventually
Slots into a 20 litre case with room to spare and needs only one 8-pin, which is why I chose it over the bigger cards. 1080p ultra is trivial and 1440p works if you turn on DLSS. Fans are inaudible below 55 degrees and a soft rush above it. The 8GB is the only thing that gives me pause about how long it will last.
Used for: 3–6 months
Cool and quiet once you are rid of the software
MSI Center resets the fan curve
Good little card that does exactly what the reviews said it would. What caught me out was MSI Center, which reset my fan curve twice and pushed a driver I did not want. Uninstalled it, used the NVIDIA panel instead, and the card has been faultless since at 62 degrees and silent. Five months in with no software on the machine at all.

Silent, cool, and enough for any 1080p game
For a 1080p machine this is all the card anyone needs. High settings everywhere, 100fps plus, and the two fans stay stopped until about 55 degrees so the box is silent for homework and video. It also barely warms the case, peaking at 64 degrees with a hotspot delta of 9, which matters when the whole machine lives in a cupboard under the stairs! Seven months of that and the fans have not picked up a rattle.

Best value in the range
Quiet, cheap, and quicker than I expected at 1080p

Cool, quiet and excellent value at 1080p
8GB forces texture compromises above 1080p
Very good at what it is meant to do, which is 1080p. The moment you push past that the 8GB becomes the whole story, and in a couple of newer titles I have had to drop textures to medium at 1440p even though the GPU load was sitting at 70 per cent. Thermals and noise are both excellent, and the card itself is a lovely bit of engineering for the money.
