Blower is loud and it heats the room
Bought for a research group to keep 70B models resident rather than sharding them across two cards, and on that measure it does exactly the job. 96GB means a quantised 70B loads with room for a long context window and nothing spills. What nobody mentions is the blower. It is a workstation cooler and it sounds like one, a constant rush at 45dB or so under load. Fine in a machine room, not fine on a desk, and the 600W it pulls warms a small office noticeably. Three weeks of that and we have already moved it to the rack room.

No zero RPM mode and the exhaust cooks whatever sits above it
Everything about the compute side has been excellent, so this is a note about living with it rather than a complaint about performance. It is a two slot card that draws 600W, which means the air leaving it is hot and it goes straight over whatever is above. My capture card now runs fifteen degrees warmer than it did. The blower also has no zero RPM mode, so there is a constant background note even when the machine is doing nothing at all. Plan the chassis around it, not the other way round.

Eight 8K RAW streams with no proxies
Overkill unless your work is genuinely memory bound
Used for video work rather than AI, and the thing that justified it was not raw speed but never having to think about VRAM again. Eight streams of 8K RAW with effects, scrubbing smoothly, no proxies, no cache purges. Where it is less impressive is single stream export, where a much cheaper consumer card gets within striking distance for a fraction of the money. If your work is not memory bound, this is not the card for you. If it is, nothing else does the job. Runs at about 80 degrees with the blower at a fixed rate.

600W and the transients demand a serious supply
Replaced a pair of 48GB cards with a single one of these and the simplification alone was worth it. One card, one driver stack, one PCIe slot, and no more splitting a model across a link that was always the bottleneck. Training runs that used to take a night finish before I go home. The 512-bit bus is the part that surprised me, because the memory bandwidth shows up on anything data heavy rather than compute heavy. Thermals have been fine in a workstation chassis with front to back airflow, sitting around 78 with the fan at a steady rate. The only real caveat is that it wants the full 600W and a supply that will not flinch at the transients. Ten months of daily training runs and it has not tripped once.

Two cards worth of render throughput in one slot
Needs a clear slot beside it and the pro driver lags behind
Specified this for a rendering box after working out that two consumer cards would cost less but need a chassis, a bigger supply and twice the driver headaches. The 96GB is transformative for scenes with heavy displacement, where we were previously baking down geometry to fit. Render times are roughly what two 5090s would give, in one slot, at a steady 78 degrees. Two things stop it being five stars. It needs the neighbouring slot left clear for intake, so plan for three slots of space rather than two, and the workstation driver has been slower to support new application versions than I would like. Neither is a surprise if you have bought a professional card before.

Loud enough that it needs its own room
This card has been the backbone of our inference box since it went in, and it has not once been the thing that failed. The number that matters is 96GB. It means we run the largest model we can get our hands on locally instead of paying per token, and the finance case paid for the card inside the first year. Context windows that used to force a chunking strategy just fit. On the 512-bit bus, batches that thrash a smaller card stay smooth. Two practical notes for anyone specifying one. It draws its full 600W for hours at a time, so the supply and the room air conditioning both matter more than usual, and the blower is loud enough that nobody would want it under a desk. Ours lives in a cupboard with a duct. Two years in and the only maintenance has been blowing the dust out.

Blower noise is not desk friendly
First job for it was a 40GB point cloud that had never loaded on anything we own without tiling, and it opened whole. That is what 96GB buys you. Installation was uneventful, one 12V-2x6 cable from the supply, driver from the workstation branch, done inside an hour. It is loud under sustained load but that was expected on a blower and it is in a rack room.
