Used for: 3–6 months
It was bought to replace a tower and a monitor that between them took up half a desk, and the swap has been worth it for the space alone. The screen is superb, the machine has never been heard, and it comes on the instant a key is pressed. This is four rather than five, though, because everything to do with expansion is decided at the moment of ordering, and a hub was needed within days for the printer and the backup drive.
Used for: 6–12 months
Memory, storage and stand height are all decided on day one
Ten months in, five stars, and a list of things I wish somebody had said before I ordered. The memory and the storage are chosen once and never again. 24GB is right for what this does, but if the work grows there is nothing to be done about it, and that is a different way of buying a computer to the one most people are used to. The ports are two of one shape on the back. Everything already owned will need an adapter or a hub, and the hub will sit on the desk the machine was bought to clear. The stand does not move up or down. For a tall person that means a stack of books or a different stand entirely. And the good, because all of that is worth putting up with: it has not made a sound in ten months, it has never once been slow, and the screen is the best I have worked at.
Used for: 1–3 months
Faultless day to day
The standard drive fills quickly
Excellent in every way that matters, though I would order more storage next time, because the standard drive does not go far once a phone backup and a photo library are on it
Used for: Less than a month
Working ten minutes after opening the box
Out of the box and working in 10 minutes, and the desk looks better for it!
Used for: 3–6 months
Looks like nothing else on a desk
Ports all live at the back
Quick, quiet, and it looks like nothing else
Used for: Less than a month
The first computer they have not rung about
Everything plugs in round the back
A present for a parent who has never got on with computers, and it has been the first one they have not rung about. One cable, one button, one screen, and the camera means the calls actually happen now. The only thing anybody in the family has had to work out is where to plug the printer in, though, because everything lives round the back!
Used for: 3–6 months
Looks like furniture in a shared room
A backup drive has to hang off the back
The reason I went for this rather than a laptop and a screen is that it has to sit in a shared room and look like furniture, and it does. It is silent, it wakes when a key is touched, and the built in camera is good enough that a work call does not need anything else. Four months in, nothing has been added except a plug in drive for backups, and nothing has gone wrong!

Nothing has crashed and nothing has needed a restart
A fortnight of relearning where everything is
Moved across from a Windows machine and my first weeks were spent learning where everything had gone, which is worth knowing before ordering rather than after. Once that settled it has been a pleasure. Nothing has crashed, nothing has needed a restart, and it has never made a sound, even with a photo library being rebuilt in the background. The screen has made the old monitor look like a window with the curtains half drawn. One star off for the ports, and for the fact that the memory is fixed forever on the day of ordering.
