Ordered this over a thinner machine because I wanted the cooling, and on that count it delivers. Under a long session the CPU sits in the low eighties and the surface above the keyboard stays warm rather than hot, which was not true of the last gaming laptop in this house. Where it loses a star is everything around the performance. The screen is quick but the colours are flat next to any decent monitor, and the coating picks up fingerprints if you so much as look at it. The speakers are thin and pointed downwards, so they fire into the desk. The webcam is there to say there is a webcam. None of that stops it being good value for what it does. Just know you are buying a games machine and not an all-rounder.
Used for: 3–6 months
Runs everything I have thrown at it at high settings on the 16 inch panel, and the WASD area stays cool even during long sessions!

Cooling that actually works
Battery away from the mains is short
Swapped a five year old machine for this and the jump is bigger than the spec sheet suggests. Games that used to need everything on low now run at native resolution with settings up, and the 16 inch screen makes a real difference on strategy games where you are reading a lot of small text. Four months in and the cooling has not disappointed once. Long sessions, warm room, still no throttling that I can see in the overlay. Unplugged is the compromise. You get an hour of light work, less if a game is running, so it lives near a socket. The brick that comes with it is heavy enough that I leave it at the desk and carry nothing.

Bought for my son's birthday and I have barely seen the thing since, which I take as a good sign. He plays a mix of shooters and building games and reports no stutter at all with everything turned up. What I notice from across the room is the noise: on the quiet profile it is genuinely fine for homework, and only when a game loads does it start to sound like a hairdryer in the distance. The keyboard lighting can be turned down to something sane, thankfully, because the out-of-box rainbow was a lot.

Fast, cool, and the screen is lovely
Fans on turbo are properly loud
Everything runs. Just do not sit next to anyone else with the fans on turbo!
Used for: Less than a month
Cool under the palm rest even after hours
The charger is a brick and a half
First gaming laptop after years of desktops, and I was braced for a compromise that has not really arrived. Frame rates at native resolution are where I hoped they would be, and the cooling clearly has thought behind it because the exhaust goes out the back rather than onto my mouse hand. Fans on the performance profile are loud, no getting round that, but on balanced they sit at a hum I can ignore with headphones off. The power supply, though. It is enormous. Factor a bigger bag into the price!
Used for: 6–12 months
Quiet profile is genuinely quiet
Weighs a fair bit for a 16 inch
Eight months in it still runs everything at full settings, but I would not want to carry it across town without a padded rucksack.
Used for: More than a year
Still holds its frame rates
16GB is starting to feel tight
Performance has not fallen off at all, which is more than I can say for the last one I owned. What has dated is the memory: 16GB was plenty a year ago, less so now with a browser open alongside a game. Worth planning an upgrade
