Sits in an office machine doing spreadsheets and has never given a moment's trouble

Not fast, not pretty, but it has never dropped a beat in a media box

    Pros

Two of these got a home server to 32GB for very little

    Cons

You will want to set the timings yourself

    Comment

Built a small file server around a cheap B660 board and this was the memory that made the budget work. Two 16GB modules, 32GB total, running TrueNAS with a handful of shares and a media container. ECC would have been nicer but the price difference was not justifiable for a home box. What matters is that it has been up without a single error since the array was built, and memtest ran clean overnight before I trusted it with anything. At 4000 it is slow by desktop standards, though for a server that is mostly waiting on disks it makes no practical difference. I did tighten the timings a little because the stock ones are lazy!

A single stick to get a second hand office PC onto DDR5 without spending anything real. The board saw it immediately, ran it at 4000 with no setting changes, and the machine has been up almost continuously since. No lighting, no software, no spreader taller than the DIMM itself. For light work it is completely adequate. That is the best part of a year of daily use.

    Used for: 3–6 months

    Pros

Overclocks well past its 4000 rating

    Cons

4000 is very slow for DDR5 out of the box

    Comment

This is the cheapest DDR5 I could find and the rated 4000 is nothing to get excited about, but there is more in it than the label says. On an Asus B760 I set 5600 manually with CL40 timings and 1.25V, and it has been completely stable there through a full TestMem5 cycle and everything I have thrown at it since. That is a substantial jump for no money. At stock it is fine too, just slow, and on a modern CPU you would feel it. The spreaders are plain black aluminium with no lighting, short enough to sit under any cooler, and they barely get warm. For a budget build this is a lot of memory for the money! Four months at 5600 now with nothing to report.

    Used for: 1–3 months

    Pros

Low profile and completely silent about it

    Cons

One module would not go past 4800 when the other did 5600

    Comment

The two sticks in my kit are not equal. Tested individually, one holds 5600 with no errors and the other throws them above 4800, so the pair runs at the slower one's limit. Not a fault as such since both meet the rated 4000, but if you are buying this for the overclocking headroom be aware you are at the mercy of the weaker module. Eight weeks of swapping sticks about to work that out.

    Pros

    Very cheap DDR5

    Cons

    4000 out of the box

    Comment

Went to 5200 manually and stayed there without complaint
