Picked this over the cheaper 850W option because the card I was buying has a reputation for spikes, and that turned out to be money well spent. A 5080 in a demanding scene draws about 360W steady but throws momentary spikes far above that, and a supply sized close to the average will trip on those even though the average is well within its rating. Twelve hundred watts means the spikes are irrelevant. Machine has never so much as stuttered. The fan does not turn below about 500W, so in practice it is off. When it comes on during a benchmark it is a low whoosh, no clicking, no whine at any frame rate. Only complaint is the length, 180mm, which ate my drive cage. Five months of heavy use and it has not put a foot wrong.

Feeds a 4080 Super and a 7800X3D in a case with a glass side, and it looks smart without shouting. More importantly the fan is genuinely off at desktop loads, so the machine is silent while I work and only wakes up under a benchmark!

Solid unit with one caveat that cost me an evening. The 12V-2x6 lead supplied is 600mm, which sounds plenty until you route it properly behind the tray and up to a card that sits high in a full tower. Mine reached but with no slack at all, and that connector is the last place you want tension. I ended up routing it in front of the tray, which spoils the tidy look I was going for. Everything else is good. Fan off at idle and through most games, 1200 watts is generous for a single card, and the Axial-tech fan is quiet when it does run. Three months in and the lead has not worked loose, at least.

The STRIX sits below the Thor and the difference is a GOLD rating instead of PLATINUM plus no display, which for most people is the right trade. A wall meter shows about 8W more waste at a typical gaming load than my friend's PLATINUM unit, which over a year is not worth the price gap. What you keep is the fan, which is the same Axial-tech design as the graphics cards and does not turn until roughly half load

Straightforward build, everything reached, everything booted. The only thing I would change is the bag of cables, which contains about four leads I will never plug in!
