Wants a 360 AIO and a board to match
The point of the Dual Edition becomes obvious quickly: cache on both dies means Windows can put a game anywhere and it still runs right. That was my one gripe with the previous sixteen core X3D part and it is simply gone. Sixteen cores, no scheduling roulette. It does want a serious cooler, mine is a 360.

The machine has not once needed a restart to make a game behave, which sounds like faint praise until you have owned a dual die chip that did. Sixteen cores available for work, full cache for play. Runs at 78 under an all core load on a 360.

The price is frankly silly
In a workstation that also gets used for games at the weekend, this has justified a frankly silly price. The work case first. Sixteen cores with cache on both sides means my simulation code, which is memory bound and hated the old split arrangement, runs about twenty percent faster than core count alone would predict. Long runs that used to be an overnight job finish before I leave. Games are the bonus. It is within a frame or two of the dedicated gaming chips in everything I have tried, and after a year I no longer keep a second machine for them.

Editing, background renders and evening gaming all on one machine
This sits in a video editing machine, and I want to be fair to it because it is a genuinely remarkable processor sold at a genuinely absurd price. What it does well is everything. Exports, effects preview, background renders while I keep working, and then games in the evening at frame rates I would have said needed a dedicated gaming build. Nothing I have asked of it has been a struggle, and it has been completely stable at 6000 on the memory from the very first boot. That is thirteen months in, most of it to deadlines. The four stars are entirely about money. For what the premium over the standard sixteen core part costs, most people would get more from spending it on storage or a better display. I do not regret it, but I would not pretend it is sensible.
