The machine has never crashed, never thermal throttled and never needed a BIOS fiddle. After two generations of Intel parts that ran hot and unstable, that alone is worth five stars from me.

The 285K sits in a machine that does colour work all day and it has been superb at exactly that. Twenty cores means a background export never touches what I am doing in the foreground, and the NPU takes on a couple of the AI tools in Resolve so the card is free for the timeline. Under a full load it sits at 76 on a 360 and draws a lot less than my old i9 did. Five months of that and my view has not shifted: it is a workstation chip, not a gaming one.

Swapped over from AMD for the first time in a long while, mostly because I wanted the integrated graphics for a fallback display, and the build could not have been simpler. Under heavy use the twenty cores are never fully busy, and the temperatures under an air cooler are twenty degrees lower than the last Intel machine I owned.

I am lukewarm on this one. It is efficient and cool, genuinely, but in games it is slower than the 14900K it replaced and that is a strange thing to say about a newer flagship. Fine for work, disappointing for the money if you play.
