Used for: 1–3 months
Cheap, small, and it put a signal in the spare room
Separate network name you have to join by hand
Small, cheap, and it did the one thing I bought it for. The spare room went from nothing at all to about 40, which is plenty for a laptop and a television and all anyone was asking for!
Used for: Less than a month
For the money it genuinely does extend the signal
Half speed, a second network name, and a slow setup page
It works, and at this price complaining feels ungenerous, but there are three things a buyer ought to know before ordering. The first is that everything through it runs at about half the speed it arrives at, because it repeats on the same radio. The back bedroom sees around 90 where the landing sees nearly 200. The second is the network name. It makes its own, so a phone walking upstairs stays glued to the weak router signal until you turn the wireless off and on again. There is no seamless handover here whatsoever. The third is the setup page, which is slow and dated and took three goes before it would accept the password. Once it is done it is done, and it has not needed touching since, but the half hour getting there was tedious. Still, the spare room has a signal now, and it was never going to be a mesh system.
