The wired port on the back took the television off wireless
Half speed, as they all are
Cheap fix for a dead corner, and the socket on the back of it is a bonus

Separate network name that phones cling to
Three years old now and the spare room has never lost signal once
Used for: 6–12 months
It does reach the top of the house
Everything through it runs at roughly half speed
It reaches, and for the money that is most of what you can ask of it. What you should expect, though, is about half of whatever the router gives you, because it is talking to the router and to your laptop on the same radio. In our case that meant 45 in the loft. Fine for email and television. Not fine if somebody up there works from home.
Used for: 6–12 months
A useful box with one honest caveat that nobody puts on the front of the packaging. An extender repeats. Every packet is received and then sent out again on the same radio, so what arrives at the far end is around half of what reaches the extender. Downstairs I get about 300 on the phone. In the back bedroom through this, about 130. For streaming and email that is more than enough, and the family have stopped complaining, so it has done the job it was bought for. If I were doing it again I would spend the extra on one with a separate band for the link home, or better still run a cable through the loft and put a proper access point up there.
