Twelve devices on it without a murmur
Battery disappears fast under a full load
Straight out of the box it found the network and put twelve devices online without a fuss. The only surprise was how quickly it drains when it is doing that, though plugged in it will run all day quite happily
Used for: More than a year
Battery has held up over a lot of trips
It has come on every caravan trip we have made and the kids have never once asked why the tablet is not working. A year and a half of weekends and the battery still holds a decent charge
Used for: 6–12 months
Bought this to stop paying for hotel wi-fi and it has more than covered itself. The screen is the best part: signal, battery, data used this month, all there without an app. It does get warm when a few laptops are on it, and the battery lasts a working morning rather than a working day, so it lives on the charger when I am at a desk. Eight months of use and no complaints beyond that.
Used for: 3–6 months
Failover quick enough that nobody notices
The device is dear and the data is dearer
We use it as the failover at a small studio where the fibre is fine until it is not. Sits on a shelf with the aerial ports fed by a pair of externals, and when the line drops the switch is quick enough that nobody in a session notices. It is not cheap, and neither is the data, but a lost afternoon costs far more than both!
Used for: 3–6 months
Anyone can drive the touchscreen
Throttles in direct sun, which is exactly where you need it
Does exactly what it says on the tin and the touchscreen makes it usable by people who would never open a router page. My grumble is thermal: leave it in a sunny window chasing a signal and it will throttle back, which is precisely where you want to put it. A small stand and a bit of shade sorted mine, but it should not have needed working out.
Used for: 1–3 months
An office on a site in about two minutes
Gets hot enough that you notice it in the hand
Site work means I turn up somewhere with no line at all and need six people online by nine. This does it out of a bag: SIM in, screen on, everyone connected, and the ethernet port on the back feeds the printer and the plotter. Signal strength is on the display so you can walk about and find the good corner before you settle!
Used for: 6–12 months
Better than home broadband on a good site
Battery goes quickly with several devices on it
Lives in the campervan and gives us better internet than the house we left behind!
