If you already speak RouterOS this is an obscene amount of router for the money. Firewall, VPN concentrator, BGP edge and the office switch all on one box, and it handles the lot without breaking a sweat. If you do not speak RouterOS, buy something else, because there is no friendly app and no wizard and the documentation assumes a great deal!

Bought on the strength of the port count and it has justified every penny of it. Thirteen copper and four SFP+ cages means the rack has one device where it used to have three, and everything the office does now hits the same switching fabric. Configuration took a weekend of reading, but nothing about it has been unreliable since.

Performance is not the issue and never has been. The issue is that RouterOS assumes you have done a course, and nine months in I still keep a text file of commands because the menus never quite go where I expect

Replaced a pair of consumer boxes doing jobs they were never built for at a small ISP we run for a village. Thirteen copper ports and four fibre cages, and the routing engine has not blinked at anything we have thrown at it yet. Full table from two upstreams loads in seconds rather than minutes, which was the whole reason for the upgrade. The fans are the only thing to be aware of: it lives in a rack in an outbuilding, and if it lived in an office nobody would put up with the noise.

The hardware is superb and the software is a mountain. Everything you could want is in there somewhere, and I do mean somewhere. I have got the WAN up, the VLANs tagged and the first tunnel running, and each of those took roughly three times as long as it would have done on the box it replaced. Worth it for what the thing can do, but do not order one expecting to have it live by Friday.

We moved to this from a much more expensive vendor box because the licence renewals were getting silly, and on raw capability it has been a straight upgrade. Four months in it is carrying the whole office plus two site tunnels and the CPU graph barely leaves the floor. The two things that cost it a star are both practical. Rack ears are included but the screws are not, which is a small thing that becomes annoying at eight o'clock on a Sunday. And the fans have exactly two modes, off and audible, with the changeover somewhere around the point where the room warms up in the afternoon, so on a hot day it is a constant reminder that it is there. In a proper comms room neither would matter at all.
