Used for: 1–3 months
Handheld shots come out level without a gimbal
Pulling long clips off to the phone is slow
Bought the grip edition specifically for handheld walking shots and it has changed how much I bother filming at all. The camera sits far enough forward that my knuckles never appear in frame, and the trigger falls under a thumb without looking. Housing goes on for river work and comes off in seconds. Only note: the app pairs quickly on my phone but the transfer of long clips still ties the handset up for a while.
Used for: Less than a month
Mounts fit everything I already owned
The case is bigger than the camera needs
Straight out of the box and onto the helmet, no faff
Used for: 6–12 months
Cold weather halves the battery, plan for spares
Stabilisation on a rutted bridleway is uncanny and the horizon simply sits still. Battery is the compromise: eight months of winter rides in, and in a hard frost it gives about half the runtime, so a spare lives in an inside pocket where it stays warm
Used for: 1–3 months
Grip and tripod in one, and it balances properly
The grip doubles as a tripod, so the bag is one item lighter
Used for: 3–6 months
Genuinely shrugs off Lake District weather
The housing fogs slightly if you seal it in a warm room
Took it up a Lakeland scramble in filthy weather and never once worried about it. Rain beads off the lens door and the mount held on a wet helmet all day without a wobble. Four months in, the only scratch on it is on the housing, which is rather the point of a housing!
