The zoom is absurd for the money. From the house it will pick out a face at the end of a two hundred metre drive, and the focus keeps up as it moves rather than hunting. Presets snap back to the gate view without any drift

Bought for a yard that backs onto open fields where there is no street lighting at all, which is exactly the case that defeats a cheap camera. Infrared reaches further than I expected and the picture at that distance is grey but sharp rather than grey and vague. Nine months in and I have identified two different people at the gate from the recording, which is the only test that matters. The patrol function is the part I did not know I wanted. It sweeps a set of preset points on a loop all night and stops on whatever trips the detection. The one thing to know before buying is that this wants a proper recorder behind it, and the initial setup expects you to be comfortable with fixed addresses and ports.
