The GPS is the reason I moved off a cheaper watch and it has been worth every bit of it. The woodland loop I run twice a week used to come back as a track that wandered off among the trees and added 800 metres; now it traces the path properly and the distances match the markers. The other surprise is how well it holds on in the city. Between tall buildings the pace stays steady rather than leaping to something absurd for a few seconds and then correcting itself.
Used for: 1–3 months
Swimming and showering with it has been a non-event
In the pool three times a week since it arrived and it has never so much as fogged. The screen locks properly so the water cannot open apps, 30 lengths come out as 30 lengths, and the shower afterwards makes no difference to it whatsoever!
Used for: 1–3 months
The best screen on any watch I have worn
Reading a message on it in bright sun takes no squinting at all, which is a low bar that nothing else has cleared!
Used for: More than a year
Worn for well over a year now and it has become the thing I notice the absence of rather than the presence. Alarms that wake me and not my wife, the door code app, boarding passes, paying for things, and the tracking when I remember to start it. The battery is still the headline. Two days of ordinary wear leaves it at about 50 per cent, and I long ago stopped packing the charger for a weekend away.
Used for: 3–6 months
Sleep tracking that I actually believe
It buzzes for things I would rather it left alone
The nights it scores as poor are the mornings I feel awful, so I have started trusting the thing
Used for: 1–3 months
Leaving the phone at home is finally realistic
The cellular does what the phone-free walk always needed. Music from the wrist, maps if I lose the path, and a way of ringing home from the top without carrying anything in a pocket. It has changed what a Sunday morning looks like more than any gadget in years!
Used for: 1–3 months
The blue is far nicer in daylight than in the photographs
The case size is not remotely subtle
The blue reads much deeper outdoors than it does on a screen, closer to navy than the bright thing in the listing photos, though nothing disguises quite how much watch is sitting there
Used for: More than a year
The band has softened rather than worn out
Notifications need pruning or the wrist never stops
The ocean band has gone softer with use rather than cracking, which is more than the rubber one on my old watch managed in a year. Set aside an evening for turning notifications off, though, or you will hate it by the second day.
Used for: 6–12 months
Three days a charge, easily
Heavy under a shirt sleeve
Charges on a Sunday and I forget about it until the next one
Used for: 1–3 months
The action button set to the torch earns its keep
The torch on that button has found more keyholes in the dark than my phone ever managed!
