Seek noise is hard to ignore
Twenty four terabytes in one bay is the whole point, and it filled the gap two smaller drives were struggling with. Loud on seek though, properly loud!

Rebuild times at this size are frightening
Capacity per pound is unbeatable at the moment and that is why it is here. The trade is that a 24TB rebuild takes the better part of two days, so if you are running this in a single parity array you want to think hard about that window. Speed itself is fine. It is the sheer size that changes how you plan things.

Swapped two ageing 8TB drives for this single unit and got back a bay, a SATA port and about twelve watts of idle draw. No regrets

Wants its own power lead rather than a shared chain
Straight into a hot swap caddy, recognised instantly, no jumper nonsense, no firmware sulk. I use it as the write target for nightly backups from three machines and a full run that used to take four hours now takes just under two. The helium drives of this size have a reputation for being fussy about power supplies, and I did have to move it off a shared SATA power chain because it kept dropping out during spin up. Once it had its own line the problem vanished and has not come back.

Far too loud for a machine you sit next to
Performance is fine, capacity is enormous, but I cannot get past the noise. In a rack in a garage this would be a five star drive. In a desktop case under a desk it is a constant presence, a low rumble at idle and a proper clatter whenever anything indexes. I have added rubber grommets and it helped a little. Four months of that and I am still noticing it, which tells you something.

Streams a 4K remux straight off the platters
Needs real airflow and space around it
Bought for a Plex library that had outgrown a four drive array, and on the numbers it is exactly what the datasheet promises. Large sequential reads sit above 250MB/s all day, which means a 4K remux streams off it without the server so much as thinking. Random performance is what it is, it is a platter drive, so I keep the metadata and thumbnails on an SSD and let this one do the heavy lifting. The reason for four rather than five is heat and the fuss it takes to manage it. Stacked directly above another drive it ran at 52 degrees under a long parity check, which is higher than I am comfortable with. Spacing them out and adding a second intake fan brought it down to 44. Three months on that has held, but it is not a drive you can just drop into a quiet build and forget.

Vibration needs a well built case to absorb it
A pair of these have been carrying the bulk archive for a CCTV and photo library since last summer, and the only attention they have needed is the odd SMART check. What sold me was the price per terabyte at this capacity, and nothing since has made me regret it. Sequential writes hold around 260MB/s from the outer tracks and settle to about 130 near the inner ones, which is normal and worth knowing if you are timing a big migration. They do run warm. In a case with poor airflow I would not fancy it. Mine sit in a caddy with a fan pointed at them and hover around 43 degrees, and the vibration is noticeable if the case panel is not screwed down properly.

Formatted, mounted and filled with about nine terabytes over the first weekend without a single hiccup. The drive turned up in proper padded packaging rather than a jiffy bag, which for a spinner of this value matters more than people think. Runs at 39 degrees in a hot swap bay with decent airflow

Went into a media server that had run out of bays long before it ran out of appetite, and consolidating four older drives onto this one has been the tidiest upgrade I have done. Copying the lot across took the best part of two days at a steady 240MB/s, which is about as fast as anything with platters is going to go. Since then it just sits there. Temperature reads 41 degrees with a single 120mm fan blowing over the cage, which for a seven thousand two hundred rpm enterprise drive in a home case is better than I feared. Seven months in and SMART is spotless.
