Went in as the second disk in a UNVR alongside a larger drive, and the mixed capacity setup has worked better than the documentation suggests it will. Protect balanced the writes across both without me touching anything, and the older drive is now doing less work as a result. Spin up is audible when the unit wakes but at idle you would not know it was there from more than a metre away. Worth knowing that the drive is a plain 5400rpm surveillance disk underneath, so the sequential figures are around 150MB/s and no more. That is entirely sufficient for camera streams and would be entirely insufficient for anything else, which is presumably the point.

For anyone deciding whether the UniFi branded drive is worth it over a generic surveillance disk, my honest answer after fitting one is that it depends entirely on how much you value not thinking about it. It works perfectly. Protect sees it, reports its health in the interface, and there is no warning banner telling you the drive is unsupported. If you run a UniFi setup you will know how much that matters, because the alternative is a permanent yellow notice you learn to ignore. But it is a one terabyte 5400rpm drive, and the same money buys considerably more capacity elsewhere. I fitted it because the site it went to is not one I visit often and I wanted the console to stay clean. In a home setup I would probably have gone the other way.

Bought for a UniFi Protect box that was still running on the little internal drive, and going to a proper 3.5 inch disk was the right call. Four cameras at full resolution now keep about three weeks of footage instead of five days. It runs quietly, no more than a soft whirr from the cabinet, and it has stayed at 36 degrees. Five months of continuous recording and nothing in the logs!

Straightforward drive for a straightforward job, and it is only fair to say it is a rebadged surveillance disk rather than anything exotic. It went into the NVR, was recognised without any firmware nonsense, and started recording within minutes of the volume being created. The retention on four cameras works out about right for the terabyte, which is to say adequate rather than generous. Marked down one because for this money there are larger drives that Protect will happily run, and the only thing you lose is the badge on the label.
