Used for: 6–12 months
Sits in a theatre rack running twelve Dante boxes and eight cameras, and the only heat it makes is in my imagination
Used for: 3–6 months
The AV profile built a Dante network without an argument
The web interface is slow to paint a page
Put this into a church sound system and the AV profile did in one wizard what took me two evenings of hand-written QoS on the last install. Audio has been glass clear since, no clicks and no dropouts on a rehearsal night with 3 cameras streaming at the same time. The interface is sluggish to load, but you barely touch it once everything is set.
Used for: 1–3 months
The audio side is excellent once it is running
The management page is slow and logs you out constantly
The switching and the audio are not the problem here. The web interface is. It takes an age to paint a page, the session times out while you are still reading a table, and half the AV settings live somewhere entirely different from where you would go looking for them. For a box aimed at installers who are up a ladder with a laptop balanced on the rack, that is a strange thing to get wrong.
Used for: Less than a month
The front panel tells you what is wrong without a laptop
Rack ears only, there are no desk feet in the box
The little front display is a much bigger deal than I expected it to be. Walk up to the rack in the middle of a show, glance at it, and you know which port has lost its link without opening a laptop and finding somewhere to balance it. Genuinely useful in a room where you cannot make noise!
Used for: 6–12 months
Silent, cool, and it has never needed a reboot
Those link LEDs really are very bright
Have not touched it since the install, which for a live venue is about the highest praise there is
Used for: Less than a month
The AV wizard genuinely is a wizard if your system fits it
There is a faint fan you can hear in an empty hall
Replaced an ageing managed switch that had been limping along in a school hall, and the difference at the first assembly was obvious to everybody in the room. Dante audio to 8 ceiling speakers, 4 PoE cameras and the streaming box all hanging off one unit, all of it configured from the AV menu in under an hour. It is not silent, though. In an empty hall you can hear a faint fan from the rack if you stand next to it, and I had rather hoped for nothing at all at this money. Nobody has ever noticed it during an actual event.
Used for: Less than a month
The port LEDs are bright enough to light the whole rack
Dante came up first time and has not stuttered once since, honestly brilliant!
Used for: 1–3 months
Once it is configured it does exactly what it claims
Three stars because getting there was miserable. The AV profiles are wonderful if your install matches one of them and a fight if it does not. Ours has a mix of Dante, NDI and two ordinary data VLANs, and the wizard kept quietly undoing settings I had made by hand in the standard menus. It took a 40 minute call with the integrator we use, rather than anything in the manual, to work out the order you have to do things in. Once it was right it has been perfect and the audio side is beyond criticism. But at this money I do not think the setup should require somebody who has already done it once. The documentation assumes you know the answer before you start.
Used for: 6–12 months
Quiet enough to sit near a live room
The AV menu rather hides the standard settings
In a hot rack behind the stage for ten months now, and not one fan wobble or dropped stream
