Size and contrast together are the whole point
Built-in audio needs help
I still get a small thrill turning it on. The combination of size and per-pixel contrast is what does it. A dark film at 83 inches with the lights off is genuinely immersive in a way my old 65 inch LCD never managed, and the QD-OLED colour stays rich rather than pale when a scene brightens. Sound is the weak link.

No blooming at all around subtitles
Struggles against daylight
The reason I chose this over the Mini LED sets is exactly what I hoped: no blooming. Watching anything with credits or subtitles on a black background, there is simply nothing around the text. No halo, no grey box. Combined with 83 inches it makes films feel like a different medium. Bright rooms are still not its friend, mind.

Enormous and beautiful
Sound is flat without a bar
Mounted on the wall, and the room has a cinema in it now

Blacks, motion and gaming features are all excellent
I am giving three stars for a reason that has nothing to do with the picture, which is lovely. At 83 inches this size of S90 uses a different panel to the smaller ones in the range, and it shows. Peak brightness on small highlights is noticeably lower than the 65 inch version I compared it against in a shop, and full screen bright scenes dim off more aggressively. In a dark room you would never know. In my living room, with two windows, I do. The blacks are perfect, the motion at 144Hz is clean and the gaming features are all there. I just expected more brightness for the outlay, and five months on that has not stopped nagging.
Used for: 1–3 months
Picture is everything the reviews say, so this is about the rest: the remote is solar charged which is clever, the interface is not, and there is no getting away from the fact that a set at this level should not be showing me adverts for things to rent.

When the panel is clean the picture is stunning
A darker vertical band down the left third of the screen
There is a fault I cannot look past: a vertical band about a hand's width wide, roughly a third in from the left, that is visibly darker than the rest on any flat mid-grey. Panning shots across a sky show it moving across the picture. On normal content you would not always notice, but once you have seen it on a football pitch you see it every match. The rest of the set is exactly what I hoped for, which makes this a very frustrating thing to be writing.
Used for: 6–12 months
It has settled into being the thing the whole household uses without anyone thinking about it. Films, sport, the console, catch-up on a rainy Sunday. Nine months on the picture has not changed, the panel care runs overnight without being asked, and the logo on the news has left no mark!

Proper 144Hz VRR gaming at 83 inches
Console gaming is what it gets used for. 4K at 144Hz with VRR over HDMI 2.1, and game mode lag is low enough that I stopped noticing.
Used for: More than a year
No complaints about the panel at all. The apps have got slower with each firmware update though, which after fourteen months is a familiar pattern.
