Used for: 6–12 months
Bright enough for a living room with the lamps on
Fan is audible in a very quiet scene
Ten months of use across a summer and a winter, and the gap between the two seasons is the whole story: dark evenings it is spectacular, July at eight in the evening it is watchable but flat. If the room has a blind in it you will be fine, and if it does not you will be waiting for sunset.
Used for: 1–3 months
Set up on a coffee table in about two minutes
Needs a metre more room than I had assumed
Auto focus and auto keystone did their work while I was still uncoiling the power lead, and the picture squared itself up on a wall that is not remotely square!
Used for: Less than a month
Garden wall, an old sheet and a warm evening, and the neighbours have started asking when the next one is!
Used for: More than a year
Two winters of Saturday film nights out of it now, and the thing that keeps surprising me is how little it asks of you. No lamp to replace, no filter to clean, and the fan is quiet enough that in a silent scene you hear the fridge in the kitchen before you hear the projector. It lives on a shelf behind the sofa and throws a 90 inch image with no need to tilt it at all. Colour has not shifted a bit over that time, which I honestly did not expect from something with LEDs inside.
Used for: 6–12 months
Ambient light washes it out, as with all of them
Brilliant after dark; honest daylight viewing is a different conversation entirely
Used for: 6–12 months
This replaced the family telly rather than joining it, which was a leap of faith in a room with two windows. Nine months in, the leap has paid off. With the curtains drawn on a winter evening a 100 inch picture makes everything an event, and the 4LED light source has enough punch that afternoon cartoons with the blinds half down are perfectly watchable. The built in dongle is better than these things usually are. Everything the family watches is on it, it remembers who is logged in, and there is no extra box or extra remote for anyone to lose. Slower than a phone, but nobody has complained yet. Auto keystone and screen fit do the fiddly part when somebody knocks the shelf, which happens weekly. The sound is a genuine surprise as well: for casual telly nobody has asked for the bar to come back, though for a proper film we still switch it in.
Used for: More than a year
Still the best thing in the living room
Wants the curtains shut for a proper film
Chosen over the telly most evenings, which tells you everything
Used for: Less than a month
Replaced a broken telly and nobody misses it
The remote needs pointing quite deliberately
The old set died the week before the football started, and rather than buy another one we took a punt on this instead. Best accident we have had. A 100 inch image in the same room the 55 inch used to sit in, on a low table with the auto fit sorting out the angle, and the whole family rearranged the furniture that same evening!
