As a desk hub it has been reliable and the footprint is genuinely clever. The power side is where you need to be honest with yourself: sixty watts holds a slim laptop steady when it is idling, but put it under a real load and the battery percentage starts creeping down. Fine for writing and email, not enough for anything that spins the fans up.

Bought it for a small desk where a flat hub simply had nowhere to sit. It stands next to the monitor arm, the keyboard, mouse, headset, a drive and the laptop charger all go into it, and the desk underneath is clear. Seven months in nothing has come loose and nothing has needed replugging. The only change I made was buying a longer host cable, because the one in the box assumes the laptop is right beside it.

The tower shape is the whole idea and it is a good one. Every hub I have owned before lay flat and ate a strip of desk the size of a paperback; this one stands on end beside the monitor foot and occupies about as much space as a mug. Because the ports run up the sides rather than along a single edge, the cables fan out instead of bundling into a knot, and reaching round to plug a stick in is a matter of feeling for the top rather than crawling under the desk. Sixty watts is the right amount for the sort of laptop that suits this, which is to say a slim one. It charges mine while driving the screen and does not get warm doing it. If you have a gaming machine that draws twice that, this is not the hub for you and no amount of tower is going to fix that!

One star, and it pains me because for a while this was the best hub I had owned. The tower shape suits a small desk, the ports are all reachable, and everything worked exactly as described. Then the charging side stopped. The laptop no longer sees any power through it, so the charger has gone back to its own port and the whole reason I bought this has evaporated. The USB ports and the video still work, which almost makes it worse, because it sits there looking fine while doing two thirds of its job. Four months for that to happen is not good enough at this price.

Reaching for a USB port used to mean groping about behind the monitor. Now it is a stand on the desk and everything is at fingertip height. The one thing I have done is stick a bit of electrical tape over the power light, which at night was lighting up the whole room!
