Used for: Less than a month
Indistinguishable from the radio channel it backs up
One more thing to find room for at the desk
Needed a wired backup for a lead role and this went into the rack for tech week. Phantom power up, mic live, nobody in the room could tell it from the radio channel!
Used for: 3–6 months
Adds nothing audible to the signal
The microdot thread will cross if you are careless
Sound is exactly what you would want, completely transparent. Four stars because at this money I expected a locking sleeve on the microdot end rather than a thread you can cross if you rush
Used for: More than a year
Puts a drawer of microdot mics back into use
The lead is too short to reach a belt clip
We run a small theatre and had a drawer of headset mics with microdot ends and no way to use them on the wired channels when a radio pack goes down. This is the piece that fixes that: mic on one end, XLR into the desk, phantom does the rest. Two years of that now and it has never introduced a hiss or a crackle. The cable between the two ends is short, mind, so it hangs off the connector rather than reaching a belt.
Used for: 3–6 months
Transparent enough that meters cannot separate it from a radio pack
Bought for broadcast work where the sound recordist wants everything on XLR and the presenter arrives with whatever lavalier they own. Having a microdot adapter in the bag means an AKG headset can go straight into a mixer without hunting for the right transmitter. What impressed me is how little it colours anything. Swapped the same mic between this and a radio pack in one session and there was under 1 dB in it on the meters. Solidly made too, all metal, and it has taken a few knocks in a bag already.
