Solid metal shell that does not creak
Tail is stiff and will not tuck behind a monitor arm
No complaints about how it works, but the tail is stiffer than it has any need to be. Behind a monitor arm it will not take the bend, so the dongle ends up hanging in mid-air on its own cable instead of tucked out of sight. Everything electrical has been perfect for the whole time it has been here.
Used for: More than a year
Wired network, screen and USB off one port with no brick
4K runs at 30Hz, fine for work and not for much else
Two things made me pick this over the cheaper j5Create dongles: a real gigabit ethernet chip rather than a 100Mb one, and enough USB-A to keep a keyboard, a mouse and a headset dongle in at the same time. On the ethernet it does exactly what it should. The laptop pulls the same speed as the desktop beside it on the same switch, and it does not fall over on a long file copy the way the cheap dongle used to. Video is where you want your eyes open. HDMI is 4K at 30Hz, not 60. On a spreadsheet and a browser you honestly will not notice; move a window quickly and you will. I run the second screen at 1440p and 60Hz instead and everything is smooth. Three years of daily use, no heat trouble, no driver nonsense, and the plug is as tight now as it was new!

Gigabit ethernet on a laptop with no network socket
Only one HDMI, so no second screen from it
The gigabit port is the entire point of this one. Working from home over a powerline adapter was miserable; a wire from this to the router took a video call from stuttering to solid. Nine months in and it has not asked for a single driver on Windows! Only one HDMI though, so a second screen means another dongle.
