Sends a clean 1080p picture 40 metres down one Cat6 run
Media player in the office cupboard, screen in reception, roughly 40 metres apart through two walls, and one Cat6 run does the lot. Picture is clean, no sparkle, no lost handshake when the player reboots itself overnight. Two years on and I have honestly forgotten it is there!
Used for: 3–6 months
IR passthrough means the remote still works from the far end
The receiver runs warm behind a wall-mounted screen
The IR passthrough is the bit that sold it: point the remote at the boardroom screen and the player in the cupboard downstairs responds. Works every time, warm receiver aside.
Used for: 6–12 months
Turned a dead hall projector back into a working one
Our hall projector had been unusable for ages because the only source was a laptop at the front and the cable run had failed somewhere inside the wall. There was a spare Cat6 pair sitting in the same conduit, so this went in instead and the hall is back in the booking system for assemblies. Sharp at 1080p, no lag that anybody has noticed from the back row.
Used for: 6–12 months
Cheaper than pulling HDMI through a wall
Two mains sockets needed, one at each end
Half the price of a 30m HDMI run and infinitely tidier
Used for: Less than a month
No configuration at all, plug both ends in and go
Wants a solid-core run, patch leads gave me sparkles
No dip switches, no software, no pairing dance: transmitter at the source, receiver at the screen, patch a cable between them and it works. Worth saying it wants a proper solid-core run though. Joining two stranded patch leads with a coupler gave me sparkles at 1080p until I pulled one single length instead!
